The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the CBS soap has a real problem on their hands. They can never seem to find a lasting romance for Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway). It’s honestly one of the most baffling dilemmas in the soap world. Melissa Ordway is a lovely gal and an excellent actress, but Y&R seemingly never makes her character’s love life a priority.
Let’s consider a few of Abby’s main squeezes over the last few years. We’ll start with Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan), which was a terrible match from the get-go. Stitch arguably looked a bit too old for Abby. Ashley Newman (Eileen Davidson) was also drawn to Stitch, and mother-daughter love interest sharing is always pretty weird.
Plus, Stitch’s tumor-suffering son, Max Rayburn (Jared Breeze), caused Abby’s miscarriage. That whole relationship was just a mess. Then, there was creepy Zack Stinnett (Ryan Ashton) – the secret sex-ring leader. Need we say more? Abby had some chemistry with Scott Grainger (Daniel Scott), but they were never given a fair shot. Scott left town not too long after Abby helped him cheat on Sharon Newman (Sharon Case).
Of course, Abby faced the other side of that when Arturo Rosales (Jason Canela) cheated on her with Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez). That romance seemed forced from the beginning. In some ways, Abby’s current relationship with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) seems the same. There’s always this feeling in Abby’s pairings that the show isn’t truly committed to them.
A few months ago, Soap Opera Digest released a blind item about a dissatisfied cast member. It suggested that one actress felt the show was just throwing love interest after love interest at her to see what might stick. That could’ve been about any actress on any soap, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it was Ordway. That’s pretty much exactly what they’ve been doing to her for years.
The Young and the Restless spoilers hint that Nate and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) may get together soon, so it sounds like Abby will be back at square one. It’d be nice if the show could cast someone specifically for Ordway instead of pairing her up with a random guy and hoping it’ll work.
However, there’s been a strong push from fans who’d like to see Abby and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) get together. They seem like they’d have some chemistry, and it could be particularly interesting since Abby’s good friends with Lola Abbott (Sasha Calle). Abby’s already dated one of Lola’s brothers and it didn’t work out. That was Arturo’s fault, so there was nothing for Lola to hold against Abby.
If Abby did something to hurt Rey, Lola might sing a different tune. That’d be something fun to play around with. Rey seems to be drifting away from the idea of starting a family, but could he change his mind with Abby? That’d be another intriguing possibility to explore.
Bottom line, there’s hope for Abby’s love life, but only if The Young and the Restless writers put some real thought into her future. Will Abby ever find the man of her dreams?
