The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) will remain stuck between a rock and a hard place – at least for now. However, we have to wonder who’s right and who’s wrong here. Is Adam pushing too hard by demanding a romantic relationship with Sharon or nothing at all? Is Sharon in denial about what she really wants?
Sharon has consistently struggled to stay away from Adam and has frequently mentioned their deep connection. It’s clear that she feels something special for her ex, so that’s worth considering. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) once suggested that Sharon was drawn to the bad boy in Adam – and that may be true. Does Sharon crave this whole “tortured-yet-dangerous soul” thing Adam’s got going?
Sharon may intend to fight her feelings and stay away from now on, but there’s no guarantee she’ll succeed. There are some important factors to consider as this plot moves forward. Although Adam indeed switched Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) meds, he only meant to throw his dad off his game. Adam never expected Victor to die – and of course, we know Victor’s only faking his demise as part of a trap.
That’s another crucial point to consider. Will the Newman’s deception and takedown plot make Sharon more sympathetic to Adam? It’s certainly not going to make Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) look the greatest in Sharon’s eyes. She won’t like the fact that Nick let Adam believe he caused Victor’s death. Furthermore, Sharon isn’t going to appreciate the heartache Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) endured because of the charade.
All of that could make Sharon reexamine what a “bad boy” really is. In some ways, Nick’s just masquerading as a good guy. “Saint Nick” can get down in the mud with his dark brother and does it often. Besides, being one of the good guys is overrated on a soap! Does Sharon truly want someone on the straight and narrow or does she want something else?
In The Young and the Restless episode airing September 25, Adam asks if Sharon would really want a life with him if he made the changes she’s asking for. He ultimately backs out of the question and suggests she should just call it a Hail Mary for old times’ sake. Nevertheless, that’s actually something Sharon needs to mull over.
Maybe it wouldn’t be such a terrible idea for Sharon to be at odds with her family and friends – at least in terms of drama. The most interesting soap relationships are often the ones where it’s them against the world. “Shadam” fans are holding out hope for the pairing, which Case and Grossman seem to be on board with.
There’s one more factor to think about and that’s the departure of Executive Vice President of CBS Daytime Programs Angelica McDaniel. Word has it she was influencing a few story directions – like the push for Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Lola Abbott (Sasha Calle). Josh Griffith, Y&R’s head writer and co-executive producer, actually seems to like “Shadam” a lot. That’s undoubtedly why he made Sharon such a vital part of Adam’s reintroduction.
If McDaniel was potentially hindering that, we could see things swing back Sharon and Adam’s way down the road. It’ll be interesting to see if “Shadam” still has a shot. Do you think Sharon should just walk away from Adam for good? Should Adam fight for love?
