A woman, 41 years old, Catherine Webster found dead, looks like she was assaulted, blunt force trauma, her husband and her daughter were home at the time. They heard a noise at 4 am and allegedly saw the perp jump out the window. Male, 30’s, wearing jeans and a hoodie. No murder weapon found, no forced entry. Detective Hotchkiss is on the scene, he rudely tells Janko that he has got this and sends her out in the lobby. He then tells Erin and Anthony that he has people canvassing the neighborhood.
Mr. Webster and his daughter Amanda are in the lobby, Hotchkiss tells them they will have to go to the precinct to make a statement, he takes another jab at Janko and asks her if she can handle that. Erin asks Janko if she is ok, she says yes but she has a hunch that the father and daughter are lying through their teeth.
Danny is told that a suspect in custody refuses to talk to anyone but him, and if he doesn’t, he won’t testify against the Sangriento cartel. They need him to make their case and need Danny to make him sing like a bird. The suspect, Luis Delgado, has a message, he needs Danny to make sure his boys are safe, the only family he has left. Danny leaves.
Martin gets in his cruiser outside the station and shoots himself dead. His widow, Rosemary, shows up at the precinct and starts shouting at Frank and tells him that nobody has their backs anymore and they can save their damn condolences.
Danny can’t find Carlos Delgado, he didn’t make it to school.
At the precinct, Janko is still convinced that the daughter and father are hiding something, Erin tells her that she needs something more concrete.
Frank is with his superiors, he tells them officer Thomas is number 11, and he thinks they should classify suicides as line of duty fatalities. They believe there is a lot of hate directed at cops and it is their job to educate the public about what the officers do to help them. Father Donahue is the last one in the room with Frank, he tells him that he is going to carry it around and blame himself but there is nothing anyone could have done. Frank refuses to believe that they can’t prevent another suicide.
Janko is off duty, she purposely bumps into the daughter, trying to get information from her when her father walks up. He tells Amanda to go sit in the car, then tells Janko that she has been through enough and he doesn’t want her near her again.
The cops got a video of Delgado’s son being taken. Patrol has the car, Danny is on his way. The vehicle is empty, there is blood in it. All of a sudden, Danny gets a call from Carlos, who says that if his dad testifies they are going to kill him. A man comes on the phone and tells Danny to give Delgado the message.
Mr.Webster goes to the precinct and confronts Erin and tells her that if Janko approaches his daughter again he is filing an order of protection.
Henry reads a statement from Mrs. Thomas, where she blames Frank. She also has a lawyer, who sent a letter to the legal bureau demanding the results from their investigation on her husband’s death. Apparently officer Martin went out one night and hooked up with a prostitute, who took photographs. Frank doesn’t want to look at the photos. The person was blackmailing him, she was going to tell his wife if he didn’t pay up. Frank wants to see Mrs. Thomas, it is the hardest part, but the most important part.
Janko is back in the precinct, Erin is there and asks her about approaching Amanda Webster. Janko says she doesn’t want the girl railroaded into lying, so she did. Erin reminds her that it is a murder charge and her speaking to them, will just spook them. Janko is upset, she believes she saw something. Erin is upset, she needs facts, not hunches.
Danny visits Delgado, who asks if he got his boys. Mancuso is there with Danny and lies to Delgado, tells him the boys are safe. Danny can’t do it, he tells Delgado the truth. Delgado jumps Mancuso and tries to strangle him.
Erin tells Anthony that Janko thinks she is the bad guy now. Anthony tells her to have patience, Eddie is the lowest ranking officer and the lowest ranking family member as well, it is hard to compete. Anthony tells Erin that Mrs. Webster was having an affair with her husband’s best friend.
Frank sits down with Rosemary Thomas and Donahue. She asks Frank what she is supposed to tell her son, he doesn’t deserve this. Frank tells her that he won’t release the information on her husband, but by all accounts, her husband was an excellent office with a stellar reputation. He tells her that she is trying to find a reason for this tragedy but she will never find it. Rosemary tells Frank to go to hell.
At dinner, everyone talks about the suicide at the precinct. They agree it is stress at the job, easy access to guns and too proud to ask for help. Danny arrives late, Frank tells him that 22 hours on duty, he is not going to help anyone. Eddie makes a comment at Erin, who tells her that she is supposed to follow proper protocol. Danny guesses what the problem is, he tells Eddie to go with her gut, it is all they got.
Danny is back in the precinct, Mancuso is upset, he tells him that he is withholding information. Danny is upset, he tells him that all he wants is for Delgado to testify and he is going to save the life of his boy if he can.
Anthony, Erin, and Janko are in a room. Erin requested to use Janko on the case, to re-interview Amanda.
Delgado gave Danny a name, he visits the man and asks him where the boy is, they bring his wife in, she is pregnant and was found with a fully loaded gun. Danny tells him that if he cooperates, maybe his wife can go home, otherwise, she will be strip-searched and booked. The guy gives in, Carlos. Is being held in a cabin upstate.
Danny and a team head to the cabin, there is a handwritten sign that says he is too late, Carlos is dead. The police dogs have a scent, everyone starts running outside and follows the dogs. They find Carlos, he has a gag in his mouth and his hands are tied but he is ok.
Amanda is in the precinct, Janko tells her that her dad is a criminal and sees the same look in her eyes that she used to have. Erin and Anthony are there. Janko says that she made a promise to herself, she was going to do what was right, no matter what the outcome and she knows how she feels – lying about her mother is going to haunt her for the rest of her life. Amanda says that her father found out that her mom had an affair, he pushed her and she hit her head, he didn’t want to kill her, but he did.
Danny is with Delgado, he says the feds want to put him in witness protection. Delgado got to spend some time with his boys, they are safe. He thanks Danny who tells him to thank him by getting on that stand and putting away those horrible people. Mancuso comes in, tells Delgado it is time.
Erin tells Eddie that it really was something seeing how she made Amanda opened up and she is sorry, she didn’t know about her dad. Eddie apologizes for coming on too strong. The two makeup, Erin tells her they need to stick together.
Thomas’ wife is in the precinct with her son for a service, she says that she blamed the department, the commissioner, herself, and anyone else she could think of. She says that she spent a long time wondering what her husband was thinking before he pulled the trigger and she wished he had asked someone for help. Frank is not there, Donahue goes to see him and tells him that it is going well. Frank is still second-guessing if it was a good idea, Donahue tells him it was. Frank tells him that he never told her what he knows about her husband. He says to heed his own advice, Frank says he does, at his family’s dinner table.
