Camilla Parker-Bowles’ life has not been easy. While most think of her affair and controversial marriage to Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall has dealt with devastating tragedies throughout her life. One of which was the sudden death of her brother, Mark Shand. Even though he passed away in 2014, loved ones fear Camilla still hasn’t properly processed her grief.
Mark Shand and The Elephant Family – Camilla’s brother founded The Elephant Family, which is a charity dedicated to saving the Asian elephant. Mark Shand spent decades pursuing this passion. Unfortunately, a day of fundraising in 2014 wouldn’t end with celebration or progress. It would instead end in his death.
The 61-year-old was outside a New York hotel when he fell over and hit his head. The fatal head injury would haunt Camilla and reportedly still does.
Camilla Parker-Bowles Devastated – According to Express, Camilla was devastated by her brother’s death, as was the entire family. While everyone deals with loss differently, loved ones are concerned about the Duchess of Cornwall. They feel that to this day, she still has not “properly processed” losing her brother so suddenly.
Duchess of Cornwall May Have Different Grief Process – “Amongst other things, they worry that she hasn’t properly processed the grief of her brother’s death and that she is still living in her nerves.”
However, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to grieve. Some cry, others withdraw and then there are those people who decide to honor their loved ones in a special way. It seems that Camilla has chosen to do the last option.
Elephant Corridor Preservation – Following Mark’s death, Camilla and her husband, Prince Charles became co-presidents of The Elephant Family. In addition, they secured £20millon with the goal of preserving 100 elephant corridors. They plan on attaining this goal by 2025.
It is only natural to worry about loved ones, especially if they take tragedy especially hard. It seems that Camilla has chosen to use the tragedy and turn it into something positive. Saving Asian elephants was Mark’s passion. Her taking charge of The Elephant Family seems like it’s her way of honoring Mark’s memory and making sure his legacy lives on.
