Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that one character’s future could be in jeopardy thanks to another’s upcoming exit. As many DOOL fans have heard by now, Victoria Konefal (Ciara Brady) is out according to Days insiders. Konefal will be making her onscreen departure in the months ahead. What does that mean for Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson)? Can Ben survive without Ciara?
It’s important to consider Ben’s history, especially if you’re a newer viewer who may not have the full picture. The pairing of Ben and Ciara has been a huge draw for Days of Our Lives. It’s attracted some new fans to the show and has sent Wilson skyrocketing to popularity along with Konefal. However, that wasn’t always the case.
When Ben first debuted in February 2014, he went by the name Ben Rogers and was portrayed by Justin Gaston. Days apparently decided to go in a different direction and replaced Gaston with Robert Scott Wilson a few months later. Perhaps they were going for someone who was more of a traditional soap hunk instead of a boy-next-door type.
There’s no doubt that Wilson’s a good-looking guy, so viewers have always enjoyed that. Unfortunately, Ben never really took off with fans during most of that first stint. Days of Our Lives paired Ben up with Kate Mansi’s Abigail Deveraux, but he was mainly just used as an obstacle for Abigail and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn).
Early on, Ben was just a sweet guy with a painful past – much like the guy he is right now. Nevertheless, the consensus on social media was far different from the one today.
Back then, Ben was deemed so uninteresting that there was a genuine push from fans to get him off the show. There was nothing special about Ben, so most people just didn’t see the need for such a dull character to stick around.
Days of Our Lives either listened or simply agreed because Ben was written out with a fantastic exit storyline. Once Wilson began portraying Ben the necktie killer who terrorized Salem, he was hit!
Ben earned the nickname “Batty Ben” and fans couldn’t wait for Ben’s later return stints. Wilson really found his groove as a villain before the character was redeemed and paired with Ciara.
Ben and Ciara’s love story worked due to Wilson’s onscreen chemistry with Konefal as well as Ben’s deadly mistakes. It was nice to see remorseful Ben wrestle with what he’d done and find someone who believed in him like Ciara. DOOL got lucky when all the pieces came together to set up some “Cin” magic.
Days seems to be steering away from that now since Ben’s judging Claire Brady (Olivia Rose Keegan) despite his own battle with mental illness. It feels like DOOL writers are losing sight of Ben’s full journey and taking away his depth with hypocrisy.
Now Ben’s losing Ciara as a love interest as well, so all of this could add up to trouble for the character.
Will Ben be able to survive without Ciara in Salem? Time will tell, but it’s safe to say Days will have to give Robert Scott Wilson a solid new love interest and some great material if Ben’s going to stay. Wilson’s a talented actor, so let’s hope it all works out! We’ll pass along updates as other DOOL news comes in.
