Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that the recent DiMera twin revelation scored a mixed reaction from fans. Some viewers were glad to know Jake Lambert (Brandon Barash) was really Jake and not Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash). Others felt a bit cheated after all the buildup and wished Jake had been revealed as Stefan instead.
On Twitter, one DOOL watcher expressed disappointment over the twin twist and got an explanation from Days of Our Lives Head Writer Ron Carlivati. “A twin,” this fan tweeted with an expressionless emoji. “Jake is nice & all but I’m ready for Stefan to come back. And #Stabi.”
“Kayla cut his heart out and put it in somebody else,” Carlivati replied. “Tough to come back from that.” Carlivati added a shrug emoji along with a broken heart. When another fan mentioned that Jack Deveraux’s (Matthew Ashford) organs were donated, Carlivati had an answer for that, too. “But I didn’t write that,” Carlivati insisted.
It seems Carlivati feels a certain responsibility to maintain some sense of realism in his own stories, but he doesn’t mind if the reality gets lost in what others wrote before him. That’s arguably an odd way to look at things. It’s all the same to fans watching at home!
We saw Will Horton (Chandler Massey) cold in the morgue and accepted it when that death was undone. It doesn’t really matter that it happened under different writing regimes. At the end of the day, it’s a soap – and soaps deliver crazy twists.
In fact, Carlivati himself admitted that in an interview with Soap Opera Digest. Carlivati talked about the tricky brain death and cut-out heart situation, but he suggested anything was possible in the soap world. Carlivai said, “…of course, it’s a soap opera: If we decided to make this Stefan, then this would be Stefan.”
However, we’re not complaining that they decided not to! Jake is a fantastic character that many fans have come to adore. At this point, a lot of viewers weren’t keen on sacrificing Jake for Stefan.
Jake has more of a personality and adds a fun, comical element to the show. Days has created a character that’s better suited to Barash’s style and talent.
Regardless, anyone holding out hope that Jake could still be Stefan somehow may be out of luck. Carlivati’s recent tweets suggest that the Jake twin revelation will stick.
It makes sense considering Days is now taking a harder stance on what Stefan did to Abigail DiMera (Marci Miller) and highlighting the fact that he was a rapist. They’re throwing their support behind Jake as the “good” twin.
