Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Alison Sweeney has a new deal with the NBC soap, which will keep her on the air from late 2020 through most of 2021. Deadline confirms that Sweeney’s current arc wraps up in September, but she’ll also be back on set next month to film new scenes and keep delivering major drama in Salem.
What does Sami’s much longer stint mean for her beloved EJ DiMera (last played by James Scott)? Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) and her baby have become Sami’s focus lately, but Allie pointed out that Sami was previously all about EJ and his recovery.
It was mentioned that EJ had a setback at his treatment facility in Italy, but there’s plenty of time for EJ to bounce back and return to Days.
After all, this EJ issue will have to be addressed one way or another. It won’t make much sense for Sami to just ditch the love of her life while he’s fighting to recover from his injuries.
Days of Our Lives went to a lot of trouble to bring EJ back from the dead, so there’s no point in having him die again. EJ needs to improve and set the stage for a return of his own.
Days of Our Lives spoilers say Sami’s next storyline will be a gripping tale that centers around her family and connects to Allie. However, the fact that Sami’s going to be around though most of 2021 means there’s certainly a chance EJ could reenter the mix.
Could EJ show up at some point during Sami’s next stint? If so, could James Scott reprise the role?
Although Scott hasn’t seemed interested in DOOL return stints in the past, he could always change his mind and bring EJ back – even if it was just for an appearance or two.
It might even be a good way to conclude Sami’s upcoming arc. Maybe EJ could come home, visit his family in Salem briefly and then escort Sami off canvas.
On the other hand, it’s possible Days of Our Lives could score Scott for a longer stint – or even recast the role entirely. Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) pointed out that EJ probably wouldn’t be recognizable once his bandages came off, though she couldn’t confirm that.
Since Days hasn’t offered any updates on what EJ looks like lately, they’ve left the door open for Scott to return OR for a brand-new actor to step up. Any EJ return would be worthwhile, but most DOOL fans would like to see Scott back in the role if possible.
It’d be fantastic if Scott’s EJ could return to Days of Our Lives for an “EJami” reunion, so let’s hope the show can make it happen!
