We see a woman get in her car and leave for the airport, her husband is on the driveway and notices a woman staring at him. She tells him that they are nearly finished their mission, but she is worried about him, she is wondering why he is giving up his life. Then she asks him what would he do if someone said he didn’t need to fulfill his purpose, what would he do. He says even if he wanted to stay, he couldn’t, this is what they were made to do and he accepted that. She says that she appreciates that and she has to do everything in her power to do everything she can for the mission. She pulls out a tool and removes the computer chip out of his neck.
Brooks and Jo are in the car, Jo is wondering what she is going to say to Mia. Brooks thinks Piper wanted to be found, that is why she sent the message. Jo says they changed her mind, Brooks wants to come up with a way to change it back. They meet up with Abby, show her a body of a guy like Piper. She asks how many others are out there. Jo wants Abby to take the guy apart and see what he is made of.
Jo is home. Alex asks if she got Piper, Jo says no and she doesn’t want to talk about it. The next morning Jo tells Mia that Piper said she is not afraid. Ed and Mia tell Jo that they contacted Pieper through CB radio.
Jo thanks Alex for staying and says sorry for not taking the night before and going to sleep. Alex says that he is not there for an apology, he wants to know the truth. Jo says Piper didn’t want to go home with her and she doesn’t know what to do. Jo doesn’t understand why Piper would contact them twice if she didn’t want to be contacted.
Joe and Brooks meet with Emily, show her the chip from the guy they killed and tell her that there are other AI’s out there. Emily is intrigued. They bring the body into the morgue, Abby is there, Jo, Brooks, and Emily.
Alex shows up at the police station with Frances Baker, introduces him to Chris – he is hoping he can help him with what they saw at the port.
Frances tells them about a hybrid metal that would have a strong magnetic field but would also stay liquid at room temperature. After three years of research, it was expensive and dangerous. Chris thinks they have to head to the power drill, that is where they will find what they are looking for.
Back in the morgue, Emily apologizes to Abby and says she has made some mistakes in the past. Joe says they weren’t mistakes, she tried to kill Piper. Emily says she realizes now that Piper is better off with her. Emily decodes the message that Piper sent, she tells Jo that she can get her into Piper’s head.
Piper is with Benny, she tells him he looks sad and she knows why, because Jo was his friend.
Emily tells Jo that she is going to put her in a digital manifestation of Piper’s thoughts and memories organized into different books. Emily says that she put all Piper’s thoughts since she was taken in a gold book. Destroy the book, and destroy the last month.
Jo is in, she is looking around, there is a fire and lots of books on the shelves. She sees the gold book, grabs for it and then she is in their house. Piper says she misses her but can’t go home. Jo reminds her of when Emily tried to take her and she changed her. Piper says she is just pretending, she wants to fix Benny and teach him to do things like her. Jo says she just wants her home. Piper says Jo didn’t leave her and she can’t leave Benny. Jo is about to throw the book in the fire, the fire goes out and Piper tells her it would be mean to burn the book, then Jo gets thrown out and Piper locks them out.
Frances gives Alex a job offer, Alex says he can’t accept it because it is a crazy time for him.
Piper is in the car with Helen and Benny, they tell her to hide in a bag that is in the back seat, they go to Isodyne Defense Dynamics research facility and get through security. Inside, Piper is looking at a computer on a wall, and Helen says this is why they need her, the door opens. The security guard is in there, he starts talking to Helen and she kills him. Piper screams, Helen says she killed him and she can’t help “them” or Benny, even if she thinks she can. Helen tells her to give her what she wants, or she will take it. Piper throws boxes at Helen, and locks her up in chains – Piper runs outside to meet Benny and they both get in the car, she tells him to drive up now.
Jo is at the police station, Alex is there and says he is doing something for Chris. Jo tells him that this has got to stop. Chris shows Jo that there is a restaurant by the pier that was using a ton of power up to a few days ago. Jo and Chris leave to check out the place.
Benny tries to call Helen, Piper says she is not going to pick up, she trapped her. Piper then says that she can help him, to be more like her. Benny snaps a bracelet on her wrist and puts her in the trunk. She hears another car, screams for help, it is Jo, she is there to save her. Benny pulls a gun on Jo. Chris is there, he distracts Benny, Jo hits Benny with a tire iron.
Jo drops Piper off at home. She thanks Alex for all his help. Mia is thrilled to have Piper back. Alex asks where Benny is, Joe says he is in the ER from his hit with the crowbar. Joe offers Alex a beer, he says no and goes to leave. He turns back and tells Jo that Frances offered him a job, a really good job in DC. With the salary he offered, he can keep his condo here and come home on the weekend to see Mia. Jo says it is a big change.
Brooks is with Emily, they have trouble, Books puts his bulletproof vest on and has his gun in hand. He sees a car coming, he tells Emily to run, she does but she looks back and sees Brooks being killed. Emily turns around, Helen is there.
