Should General Hospital Do a COVID-19 Storyline When New GH Episodes Return?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that the show will finish airing the last of its new episodes on May 21, but fans are already looking to the future. What happens once GH returns with new episodes? Should General Hospital do a COVID-19 storyline? Let’s consider the pros and cons of going for that story option.

For starters, if there’s any soap that’s going to do a coronavirus plot, it might as well be General Hospital! Hospital’s right in the name, so it’d be easy for them to have some cases at GH and highlight the drama there. They could also spell out all the distancing rules and bring a slice of real life to Port Charles.

By including the pandemic, it’d be a simple explanation for some of the restrictions that should be in place. Depending on when production resumes, actors will likely have to keep their distance and avoid kissing or love scenes.

Scenes with large groups should also be out for a while, so maybe PC could just be cautious due to the coronavirus.

Then again, most of us enjoy watching General Hospital as an escape from all the doom and gloom. COVID-19 has been all over the news nonstop, so do we really want to hear about it on GH, too? It might be nice to have a break from the coronavirus crisis and just focus on the characters’ problems for a change.

Fortunately, General Hospital has some good non-romantic stories they can focus on. Nelle Benson Archer (Chloe Lanier) is Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) biological daughter, so GH can spin things in a tense direction and then let the big reveal blow up. It’d bring Nina’s fight to bond with Nelle – and it wouldn’t be an easy one.

As for Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), they’ll probably fall for each other as newlyweds, but it won’t happen overnight. Tender looks of longing will work just find as they chat from a reasonable distance. There’s no need for Willow and Michael to be getting hot and heavy right off the bat.

There’s also the mob war between Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), which Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) are wrapped up in, too. That’s a great story to concentrate on that requires no intimacy at all. GH can just lean into the action and adventure side of things.

Bottom line, it might be best to just avoid COVID-19 entirely and give everyone the escape they’re craving. As other GH details emerge, we’ll keep you posted on any updates that come along.
