Andy is standing by her word. She meant what she said when she told her mother that she wanted to keep her aunt in her life. Her aunt tried to be there for Andy as Andy was growing up and so that earned Andy’s respect. Andy never knew her aunt contacted her. She never knew that there were birthday cards or even Christmas cards. She just knew her aunt was there one day and gone the next.

It was Andy’s father Pruitt who kept the aunt at arm’s length. Pruitt made this decision because he thought he was helping. He thought that having her aunt around would ultimately hurt Andy because then she would find out her mother abandoned her, but Pruitt often underestimated Andy while he was alive, and now it’s up to Andy to decide who she wants to be involved in her life.

Andy wants to know her aunt. She wants to go grilling in the park with her aunt, uncle, and cousins. It was a family tradition for them to do so every once in a while and Andy remembered what it was like when she was small doing this. Andy loved the family BBQs. She hates that the family stopped inviting her and she’s trying not to be angry about it. Andy knows it wasn’t their fault that the family fell apart as it did.

They had sided with her mother who was her aunt’s sister and Pruitt had sided with Andy. He protected his daughter from knowing the truth about her mother. The same mother that left to go pursue a firefighter career and who didn’t come back after that career fell through. Her mother stayed away because she wanted to stay away.

Andy’s mother never really wanted to be a mother. She didn’t love Andy like she was supposed to. She had found herself pregnant and everyone promised her that the feelings would come, but they never did. Andy’s mother just wasn’t the mother type. Andy is learning to accept that and more than anything she wants to move on. She wants to get to know her family again. She’s going to the BBQs and she’s catching up on what she’s missed. Andy didn’t bring her husband along. She and Sullivan were temporarily separated. It was considered temporary because Sullivan needed to focus on recovery right now and that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to be with Andy. He still loves Andy. He still wants to make their marriage work.

Only Sullivan needs time to address what was wrong to make him use drugs. He first started to use it because he was injured on the job and his injury required pain management. It later took on a life of its own. Sullivan began using whenever he was upset or lonely or simply questioning his own judgment. He stopped using when he got serious with Andy and so he thought he could stay clean for her, but that’s now how recovery works.

He couldn’t stay clean for another person because what will happen if they get into an argument? He would have used that as justification to go back to drugs and so he has to get clean for himself first. He had to focus on himself. The pandemic has changed the way he experiences the program. He has to have meetings online now.

Sullivan also had to use these video conferences to find a sponsor. He really wanted Dr. Amelia Shepherd to be his sponsor and she turned him down because she was already his doctor. She was the surgeon who worked on him. She’ll also be handling his recovery from that surgery and so he needed a different sponsor. Preferably, a man. Addicts sometimes form attachments as they experience the program and they use sex as an outlet and so if he really wanted to make his marriage work then he needed to find a male sponsor. Sullivan promised Amelia he’ll do just that. He was working towards gathering his courage while his old station house was dealing with an animal at large.

A woman had been housing a tiger in her backyard. She had “rescued” it as a cub from some filthy seller and then she took it home with her to raise in the suburbs. She raised it till adulthood. It now weighs more than she does and it was dangerous. The woman, Yvonne, had to be cutting back on what she fed the tiger because the pandemic had left them with a meat shortage.

She was therefore nearly starving the animal when a mail courier scared it and it attacked her. Yvonne was found by Montgomery and Ben. The two had heard her call out to Lorelei. They thought there was another person in the house and they searched for this other person who they feared might be hurt as well. They instead found a cage along with some fresh meat.

Montgomery quickly realized their patient was harboring a dangerous animal. An exotic animal. He asked Yvonne about it and that’s how Ben found out about it. The two of them called the police, they notified animal control, and they also notified their station. The Firefighters came out in full force to warn people to stay indoors. They told them that there was an animal on the loose and unfortunately the animal was traveling.

Montgomery passed it on the way to the hospital. He and Ben were doing their best to save Yvonne’s life so they couldn’t slow down and all their efforts were for nothing. Yvonne died from her injuries. She was the only one who believed Lorelei wasn’t a danger and so the animal will most likely be put down now that she’s dead.

The other firefighters returned to their house after not spotting the animal. They had heard it went into a different animal and mauled someone there and so it’s no longer their problem. They could finally focus on what’s bothering them. Vic was hurt to find out that Miller broke with his girlfriend because she thought he kicked her out of the house for this girlfriend and so it makes her wonder why she had got thrown out. She was living with Montgomery now.

She was happy where she was, but it had hurt when she got kicked out and now that was for nothing as well. Vic didn’t want to speak to Miller or look at him. If she had, he’d probably have told her the real reason he didn’t want to live with her anymore.

Miller kicked out Vic because he was starting to develop feelings for her. He couldn’t tell her that because he didn’t want to risk their friendship and so the only one who knows about is Jack. Jack has been working on himself since before the pandemic. He’s been going through therapy and he realizes the mistake he often makes with women. He was now friends with several women.

He wasn’t sleeping with any of them and Maya thought that should change. She didn’t want him back. She thought Jack should make a move on a girl he claims was like his sister and who she reminded him wasn’t his sister. And so Jack was considering his next move as he was helping Miller figure out what he should do.

The guys were talking when they spotted the tiger. The tiger had followed them back to the station and Vic was so upset with Miller that she ignored him when he told her to stay put. She ran out by the trucks directly in front of the tiger. Vic was scared to move, scared to stay. It was Miller who saved her life. Miller tossed some steaks in the other direction and that drew the tiger away from Vic.

Vic was able to hide in the office with the others. They waited until animal control arrived. Animal control was going to take the tiger to the zoo and that way she’ll be fed as well as looked after. It was clear by the time Maya took a call from her boss to say that everything was good at their house now. Maya also ran into her girlfriend Carina who decided she wanted to quarantine with her and so the two of them were going to live through this pandemic together.

Sullivan also found a sponsor. He chose Dr. Richard Webber as his sponsor because he used to be his doctor and he wasn’t his doctor anymore.

Montgomery also realized one of the reasons he had been yelling at Yvonne the Tiger Mom is because he found his father on a gay dating site and he was angry his father living a lie with his mom.

And Andy found out her father stopped taking her to the family BBQs because her young cousin let it slip that she saw her aunt the other day and that she wasn’t dead after all. So, that was the final straw with Pruitt. That’s why he cut off contact with Andy’s aunt and her family.

THE END!
