The idea of his nemesis, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton), replacing him as Douglas Forrester’s (Henry Joseph Samiri) father will be a non-starter. While Thomas encouraged the bond between Hope and his son, that eventually led to her becoming Douglas’ legal parent, he will seek to prevent Liam’s attempt at adoption.
Needing to change the dynamic before a concrete legal decision is made, Thomas could attempt to turn the tables on Liam, making him the perceived threat to Douglas.

As hardcore fans recall, the custody issue included dialogue in the script that cited California law specifics. Playing off real life, viewers learned, or were reminded based on their existing knowledge, that a child in that state is allowed to have more than two legal parents.
The above seemed to set the stage for Liam to eventually be added to Douglas’ parent list, meaning that he’d have Thomas, Hope, and Clifton’s character legally in charge of him.
But fans know that Thomas plays hardball when needed. While he doesn’t always win and often suffers the consequences of his own actions, an intriguing option is being projected.

Thomas could honestly be tagged as a clear danger to Douglas when recent history is considered. Any reasonable judge would see Atkinson’s character for who he is and award Liam custody, with Thomas granted supervised visitation.
However, Thomas will calculate the above outcome and plan ahead. Just as he’s fought Liam in the past, sometimes literally, he’ll do so again in timed manner.
Pushed beyond his limits, Thomas can draw Liam into a confrontation that takes place in front of Douglas. Liam would lose his composure, with Thomas playing into it for a purposeful reason.

As a result of the projected scenario, Liam will make himself look unstable. And with that, Hope’s living situation will become precarious.
Lope is solid and doesn’t project toward breakup. But if Liam is deemed a threat to Douglas’ stability, then how could that young man continue living at the cabin? Either Douglas could move back with this father, or Liam could move out. Of course, Liam’s hope for adoption would also be in serious jeopardy.
