The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) continues to deal with the ravages of Alzheimer’s. She’s been off-screen since the last episodes were aired as the production shutdown impact was felt. Now, with new shows being broadcast, Y&R appears to be presenting what feels like Dina’s penultimate act.
The Abbott children want to help their mother honor the past. Another feel-good storyline is starting, with a reference to John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) home movies serving as the plot device which will enable the younger versions of these well known characters to be seen once again.

General Hospital has an Alzheimer’s storyline where Max Gail’s (Mike Corbin) character is suffering with this disease. Y&R’s take on the subject also has a character from the past facing the same fate.
Choosing Adams’ alter ego for this now year’s-long arc was intriguing. Dina hadn’t been a significant part of the show for an extended period of time, with her last period of lengthy work having occurred in the mid 1980’s. John was introduced in 1981, with Dina later helping to broaden his backstory.
John passed away in the mid 2000’s, with Dina only being seen on occasion since then. So, welcoming Adams back to the cast was a thoughtful choice. Doing so has deepened this legacy family’s backstory and has clearly allowed Adams to present her best performances, with past ones having been strong.

By having younger actors portray the Abbott family, as will be seen again in upcoming episodes, Y&R is able to tell stories that otherwise couldn’t be told.
Today’s cast can always talk about what happened in days gone by. Having them do so once again as lead-ins to the new vignettes is very satisfying.
The writing quality of the past retrospectives was superb, as was the visual style in which they were presented. The period-themed stories within the storyline provide worthwhile insight into John and Dina’s marriage and family life. The mansion setting also becomes a character of its own era.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – One Last Set Of Good Dina Mergeron Memories?
The Bixly mystery was quickly clarified by Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), who recalled that her father’s home movies were linked to the term Bixby, as Dina’s hand-written lowercase letter b was initially thought to be the letter l. So, no extensive search is needed for Dina’s message this time, as it wasn’t cryptic.
It will be fitting if this storyline proves to be Dina’s last set of good memories. Her debilitating condition does seem to be nearing its end, which will lead to her inevitable demise. This great actor and the character she’s portrayed across thirty-six years will be missed whenever the dramatic final episode is seen.
