The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) will be on a mission. Y&R fans know Mariah screwed up big time by making false assumptions about Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) sleeping with Tanner Watts (Chase Coleman). That led to Mariah being distraught and vulnerable enough to actually sleep with Lindsay (Kirby Bliss Blanton), so some groveling is in order.
Just as a reminder, the show spelled out for viewers that Tessa is NOT cheating. Tessa seemed to be getting some mixed signals, so she decided to flat-out ask Tanner if he was hoping this would turn into something more.
Tanner was adamant about respecting their friendship and her relationship. It’s possible Tanner’s manipulating the situation on his end, but Tessa has made it clear she’s not interested.
If Mariah had taken the time to have an actual conversation about this with Tessa, her betrayal could’ve been avoided. Instead, Mariah hung up on her and made more assumptions when Tessa didn’t text back. She somehow turned that into thinking things were over, which was a bizarre leap to make.
Sadly, Mariah made matters worse during that epic confrontation at their apartment. Not only did Mariah hurl angry accusations, she was in a robe post-shower and Lindsay was still on the sofa. Mariah’s lie about not sleeping with Lindsay definitely wasn’t bought by Tessa. That look in her eyes as she stormed out was heartbreaking!
However, the harshest blow was the fact that Mariah thought Tessa would cheat at all. A stunned Tessa asked, “Who do you think I am?!” Mariah fired back, “I don’t know! That’s always been the problem!” It had to cut like a knife considering what’s played out between Mariah and Tessa over the course of their relationship.
Let’s look at other dialogue examples from Mariah so you can see how much this must’ve crushed Tessa. July 25, 2018: “Because the Tessa that I know has one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen.” April 17, 2019: “And then people can see the Tessa that I know so well.” May 31, 2019: “I’m your person. And I know the real you.”
Tessa feels nobody else has ever known her like Mariah does, so she must be reeling. Even at their anniversary party last November, Mariah said she knew there was more to Tessa than her history and her mistakes.
Tessa insisted no one had ever trusted her the way Mariah had. It’s Mariah’s belief in Tessa that’s allowed her to grow and change, but now she’s surely questioning everything.
Time and time again, there’s been this theme of Mariah loving Tessa because she truly KNOWS her. We’ve watched them seemingly overcome trust issues, but now secrets and insecurities have blown things up.
That’s why when Mariah begs for forgiveness during the week of March 16-20, there’ll be more to talk about than just Lindsay and Tanner. This story has never been about the temporary interlopers. It’s been about strengthening Mariah and Tessa’s relationship. Y&R’s testing them and intends to take an already deep bond even deeper.
The Young and the Restless spoilers and updates say Mariah will own up to her major blunder. She’ll express remorse over her betrayal and realize she should’ve communicated with Tessa. We can’t forget that Mariah also failed to mention Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) breast cancer and the loss of her job at Power Communications.
How will Tessa react when Mariah dumps all this on her? Tessa will certainly be sympathetic and concerned, but Mariah’s news may add to her pain as well. It goes back to that whole idea of why Mariah couldn’t trust her enough to be honest. Tessa shouldn’t have to keep proving herself or paying for her past for all eternity.
Furthermore, Tessa never should’ve been left out of Sharon’s inner circle. She’s bound to feel like an outsider – and that’s not fair when Tessa has built a life with Mariah. Tessa has always deserved a spot on “Team Sharon.” Forgiving Mariah’s betrayal may come relatively fast, but it’s the underlying trust issues that may take more work to overcome.
Fortunately, Cait Fairbanks is still filming often. Other sites are spinning bogus stories about Tessa exiting, but there are clearly no plans for that. To quote Tessa herself, all evidence to the contrary!
Mariah and Tessa will be getting quite a bit of airtime in the weeks ahead. Y&R’s proven that they see value in keeping this couple around, so expect reconciliation for “Teriah” soon.
