The Young and the Restless Spoilers Recap: Thursday, August 20 - Nikki Becomes Newman COO - Adam First Therapy Session Fails

The Young and the Restless spoilers recap for Thursday, August 20, tease Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) will prepare for her first session with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) to try to retrieve his childhood memories of killing AJ Montalvo. Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) will support Sharon and urge her to care for herself since it may take more energy than she thinks.

Meanwhile, at Adam and Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) place, Adam will be anxious but ready to get the process started as well. Adam will be happy that he has Chelsea’s support in getting to the bottom of his memories, but Chelsea will caution Adam that it could take time to unearth what he’s hoping to find.

At the Abbott estate, Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) will discuss the home movies that have just arrived from Paris. Jack and Traci will wonder exactly what’s in these movies that Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) wanted to see.

Over at the Newman Ranch, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will still be feeling raw about Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) selling off parts of the family company.

Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) will think that it was a smart business move, but Victor will think that it’s payback against him. As Victor heads out to go riding, Nikki will hear from Victoria, who will want her to drop by Newman Enterprises.

Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) will revisit their discussion about Adam as they relax in the park.

Chance will still be concerned about Adam since his ousting from Newman Enterprises, and he won’t be on board with Abby’s assertion that Adam has reverted back to the “old” Adam. Abby won’t back down from her position, but she’ll refuse to let Adam come between them.

Back at Sharon’s place, Adam will arrive, and their session will begin. Sharon will begin by asking Adam about his childhood and the farm. Sharon will inquire about Adam’s typical routine during the days, and she’ll wonder if Adam noticed any break in his routine around the time of AJ’s death.

Adam won’t remember much, but he’ll remember feeling sad for Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico).

After Sharon delves some more into how Adam and Hope Wilson (Signy Coleman) didn’t attend AJ’s funeral, Adam will get frustrated because he doesn’t remember things.

Sharon will tell Adam that he’ll have to be patient, and around this time, Sharon will be feeling tired and Adam will notice. Adam will respect her feelings and he’ll take off, thanking Sharon before he goes.

At Newman Enterprises, Nikki will arrive, and she’ll be surprised when Victoria asks her to be the new COO. Nikki will think that’s probably not a good idea considering Victor, but Victoria will insist that she believes that Nikki would be great at the position.

Victoria will want an answer from Nikki immediately, asking if Nikki’s in or out.

At Adam and Chelsea’s penthouse, Chance will show up to see Adam, who won’t be there. Chance will glean from Chelsea’s unwillingness to talk about Adam that he’s not doing so well.

Chance will tell Chelsea to let Adam know that he’s there for him as a friend. Later, Adam will return home and relay what happened in his session with Sharon and that he didn’t uncover anything new. Adam will vow to keep going until he knows the truth.

Over at Society, Jack and Abby will talk a bit before Traci texts and summons them home. Traci will have the home movie ready to go, and what they’ll watch is a movie of young Dina Abbott (Cathy Marks) holding Jack as a baby while a young John Abbott (Jonathan Stoddard) narrates.

Later, after Dina has seen the movie, Jack will wonder if perhaps Dina wanted them to hear John’s touching words as he narrated – about love and family being what matters.

Back at the Newman Ranch, Nikki will return with news for Victor – that she’s the new COO of Newman Enterprises. Victor will be glad, but it will turn out that he’ll want Nikki to be his eyes and ears there.

Nikki will say that she’s not going to do that or take sides between him and Victoria. Victor will warn Nikki that at some point, she’ll have to take sides.
