The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Friday, December 18, teases that Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) hints to Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) about all the stuff he’s getting for Christmas.
Chance wonders if he’s getting socks, but Abby thinks that’s the one thing Chance has a crazy amount of. She asks what’s up with that, but Chance isn’t going to tell her. A little mystery in a marriage is a good thing.
At Chancellor Communications, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) questions whether Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) will take the evidence she pointed to seriously. She really does believe this could be the key to proving Billy Abbott’s (Jason Thompson) innocence. Behind bars, Billy paces and mulls over all the new proof pointing at Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico).
Next on Friday’s Young and the Restless episode, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) calls Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and wants to know when the DA thinks this will go to trial.
The judge hasn’t set a trial date – and with the holidays coming up, they’re looking at least a few weeks until they’re on the docket. Victor makes it clear that he wants “Billy Boy” to pay for what he’s done.
Once Michael hangs up, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) shows up with big news. He mentions the tip that led to the gloves being discovered. They’re being checked for gunpowder and secondary DNA as they speak.
Rey talks about Alyssa being a skilled markswoman and notes that the man Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) killed when he was 11 was her father.
Michael realizes that their super-secret witness – the one they’ve built their entire case around – has been lying to cover up her own crime. Rey says they’ll see what the evidence says and take it from there.
At Crimson Lights, Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) arrives and fills Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) in on the latest from Dr. Frasier. The nerve damage is too severe, so the chances of Nate performing surgery again are almost non-existent.
Elena is so sorry and was hoping things would work out. She wonders if there’s even a small chance that Nate can operate again – or if he could get a second opinion.
Nate talks about facing reality and wants to be alone for a while to see where he goes from here. Elena says Nate is fresh out of surgery and doesn’t think it’s a good idea for him to be alone right now.
Nate admits Elena might be right. “To be honest, maybe for the first time in my life I don’t know what to do,” Nate says. Elena tells Nate they should get out of there and takes him up to her apartment.
Back with Lily, she talks to Amanda about Billy being an old friend and business partner. “And?” Amanda says. She doesn’t think the flying sparks between Billy and Lily are a secret.
Amanda wants to know if things are getting more serious. Lily says of course they are – they’re trying to get Billy out of jail. She takes a dig about Amanda trying to get Billy to take a plea deal, but then apologizes.
Lily never for a second thought Billy might be guilty. Amanda brings up the fact that Billy lied about being at the crime scene and seems surprised that Lily’s never even considered Billy’s guilt.
Back at the Chancellor mansion, Rey arrives to grill Chance about Alyssa. Chance fills Rey in on how Alyssa wanted to know about Adam’s role in all the Vegas drama.
As Abby listens around the corner, Chance realizes Rey thinks Alyssa had something to do with the shooting. He also talks about walking in on a confrontation between Alyssa and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan). Adam used Alyssa as part of his blackmail plot and then Alyssa found out he killed her father.
That combination of things left Alyssa furious according to Chance. “Furious enough to want revenge?” Rey wonders. “That exposé – as damning as it was – may not have been satisfying enough.”
In Alyssa’s suite, she seems a panicky and considers going on the run. However, there’s a cop posted at the door when Alyssa peeks outside. She shuts the door and sighs nervously.
In Lily’s office, she tells Amanda that Billy made a mistake when he lied about where he was the day of the shooting. However, it turns out Billy had reason to be wary. Lily had no doubts. She knows what Billy’s capable of and what he isn’t.
Amanda points out that Billy hasn’t gotten violent because of Adam in the past. Lily maintains that she knows Billy’s innocent.
Amanda doesn’t think Lily’s talking about a friend or colleague that she shares a few sparks with. Lily suddenly feels like she’s being cross-examined, so Amanda dials it down. She wonders if she’s right and is so happy for Lily if she is.
“OK, so maybe there’s more than just sparks and banter,” Lily admits. Amanda has noticed Lily’s strong attachment to Billy that’s growing by the day.
At Elena’s place, she tries to lift Nate’s spirits. Nate’s still thinking about his hand, but Elena wants to support him. Nate thinks his first instinct was right and wants to be alone for a few days – to absorb what happened and figure out where to go from here.
Elena says Nate doesn’t have to leave to do that. She contends that Nate can say what he’d say in his own head – just out loud. Nate thinks that’s the definition of a conversation, but Elena wants Nate to feel free to open up to her.
This doesn’t feel real to Nate yet. He remembers his mother being a doctor and how he wanted to follow in her footsteps. After Nate’s dad died, he was driven to succeed and excel. Nate’s career became a passion, but that one awful moment at the gala took it all away. “Who am I if I’m not a surgeon?” Nate wonders.
Elena thinks it’s because of her, but Nate says they’re past feeling guilty about what happened between them. Elena assures Nate that he’s still a brilliant doctor. He can do with one and a half hands what most doctors can’t do with two. Nate jokes about using that as a commercial for his new practice.
Elena notes that Christmas is about miracles, so maybe Nate should ask for one. Elena thinks science and faith can coexist. Nate wonders if maybe his miracle could be finding a new path to someone better.
Elena would love to help with that. Nate gets an idea and asks Elena to come with him; he’s going to take that first step forward.
Later, Nate and Elena come back with a Christmas tree. They kid around about Nate being a “demanding little Christmas elf.” Nate says it needs ornaments and gets some sent to them. “This was a Christmas emergency,” Nate insists.
Elena thinks it’s nice to see Nate smile, so Nate says this does feel like a Christmas miracle and thanks her.
Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) drops by Chancellor Communications and admits she went to see Billy. She talks about Johnny Abbott (Holden and Ryan Hare) asking a lot of questions and worries this is only the beginning for Billy. Lily hopes they’re closer to the end.
Amanda gets a phone call from Michael, who wants to see her and will explain everything when she gets there. Lily tells Victoria she can call her if there’s any news, but Victoria insists that’s OK – she’ll wait.
In his jail cell, he’s surprised when a cop comes to get him. Billy heads into the interview room with Michael, and they’re joined by Amanda moments later.
Pending a formal court hearing, Billy’s charges are being dropped. He gets an apology from Michael and learns he’s free to go. Back in Alyssa’s suite, Rey shows up to arrest her for the attempted murder of Chance.
At the Chancellor mansion again, Chance checks a text and confirms to Abby that Billy’s been released. After Chance admits Billy was set up after all, he explains about Alyssa.
“Wow, that’s shocking,” Abby says somewhat unconvincingly. Chance sweetly calls Abby out for eavesdropping earlier, but she feels justified in her actions and needed to know what was going on.
Afterward, Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) is on video chat and gets confirmation on Billy being set up. Jill is relieved and will call Billy soon. Talk turns to Chance and Abby’s honeymoon, so Chance admits it wasn’t as luxurious as they were expecting.
Abby says it was “shabby-chic without the chic,” and Chance offers updates on the air mattress drama. In the end, they wouldn’t change a thing.
As Chance disconnects, he looks up and notices Abby looking emotional. Abby is finally realizing the shock it would’ve been if Billy had actually shot Chance. Since Billy is innocent, Chance insists there’s no need to worry.
Abby worries about what it would’ve done to their families if Billy had been charged for something he didn’t do. Chance continues to reassure Abby and promises they’ll get through everything life throws at them.
Back with Rey, he tells Michael that the gun powder traces on the weapon match the traces found on Alyssa’s shooting gloves. Secondary DNA matching Billy’s was also found on the gloves – presumably from the weapon registered to Billy that was stolen from Victoria’s home.
Alyssa seemed remorseful following her arrest – though Rey sensed it was only about the framing Billy part.
Michael is glad the right person is going to stand trial. Rey says they couldn’t have done it without Billy’s “tenacious business partner.” Billy shows up at Society with Amanda, who fills Lily and Victoria in on Alyssa going down for the crime.
Victoria calls it “very impressive” when she learns Lily got in Alyssa’s hotel room to find a key piece of evidence. She learns Billy and Lily have been working together on this. Victoria never would’ve suspected Alyssa. Amanda feels like Alyssa must’ve been tipped over the edge. She guesses maybe Alyssa thought Billy had the money and resources to get off the hook.
Billy thanks everyone for all their support and steals Lily away to offer extra gratitude privately. Victoria scowls in their direction – and Amanda notices. On the Crimson Lights patio, Victor is stunned to learn from Michael that Alyssa is guilty, not Billy.
Michael knows Victor wanted Billy to go down for this, but he feels this spares Victor’s family and thinks Vic has a sense of fairness instilled in him deep down.
Michael argues this is good news, but Victor rubs a hand over his face in frustration. “Yeah, well. If you say so,” Victor contends. By Society’s bar on Friday’s Y&R episode, Billy can’t find the words to describe how grateful he is to Lily.
Lily never gave up on Billy and never will. Across the room, Victoria glares at the crackling chemistry between Lily and Billy.
