The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Thursday, August 20 – Jack’s Emotional Message from John – Sharon’s Attempt to Help Adam

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers for Thursday, August 20, tease that more Genoa City bombshells are brewing. At home, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is eager to learn how who he was as a boy affected who he is now. Adam’s hoping he can get answers with Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) help today.

At the Abbott mansion, Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) surprised by how fast the boxes were delivered from Paris. Traci Abbott’s (Beth Maitland) keeps her fingers crossed that whatever home movie Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) wants to see is in one of those boxes. Jack has a meeting, but he warns Traci not to get her hopes up.

In Thursday’s Young and the Restless episode, Traci thinks it’ll all be worth it if there’s even one moment of recognition. Once Traci’s alone, she digs through the boxes and seems thrilled by the home movie reel she finds.

At the ranch, Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) still fuming about Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) press conference and how she’s been selling off Newman divisions.

Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) defends Victoria a bit and wonders why Victor’s so against his daughter’s vision for the company. Victor rants about how this is Victoria’s payback for how he handled things with Adam.

After Victor steps out for a ride, Nikki takes a call. Victoria wants Nikki to head over to Newman Enterprises since they have unfinished business. In the park, Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) talks to Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) about Victoria’s press conference.

Abby doesn’t want to get in the middle of whatever “fresh hell” is going on with Victor, Victoria and Adam.

Chance still hasn’t heard back from Adam and remains concerned. Abby was hoping Chance would put that friendship behind him, but Chance doesn’t think he can do that.

Chance also doesn’t buy the idea that the Adam he knew in Vegas doesn’t exist anymore. Adam put his own life on the line to save Chance, and that trait doesn’t just go away.

Abby gets why that experience brought them closer, but she points out a crime was committed and covered up. Trouble follows Adam wherever he goes. However, Abby respects that Chance wants to reach out to a friend who’s going through a rough time.

She thinks she’s got a good thing going with Chance and would be crazy to let anyone – including Adam – come between them.

Back at the penthouse, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) warns Adam that they don’t know what this memory retrieval process will look like or how Adam will absorb everything. In Thursday’s Y&R episode, Chelsea pushes Adam to just take things one day at a time.

At Sharon’s place, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) points out that Sharon’s personally invested. He feels like this process will be more taxing than she thinks, but Sharon promises not to push herself too hard.

After Rey heads off to work, Adam arrives and makes sure Sharon’s up for this session. They get started, so Sharon thinks they should begin with a simple conversation.

Sharon gets Adam talking about when he was a boy on the farm in the springtime. She asks him to set aside everything he’s been told about AJ. Sharon encourages Adam to paint her a picture of his average life on the farm. Adam used to wake up at sunrise and do his chores before walking down the road to catch the school bus.

Adam reflects on it being about a half a mile to the bus stop, which seems weird now since he won’t let Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) go that far alone. However, Adam suggests it was no big deal then and seemed safe.

Adam adds that he would’ve been in sixth grade at the time of the incident. He talks about his favorite subjects and how Hope Wilson (last played by Beth Toussaint) would ask him about his day when he returned home.

Adam would do his homework while his mom was cooking dinner. There was a routine since Hope was big on structure and sticking to a schedule.

Sharon wonders if anything was different around the time AJ died – if there was a break in the routine. Adam can’t remember for sure how he found out about AJ’s death, but he recalls feeling sad for Alyssa Montalvo.

Sharon gets Adam talking about not attending the funeral and how that seemed strange. Hope made a pie and that’s it, so that was odd to Adam.

Adam remembers the scent of the pie and feeling no guilt at all. Everything felt so normal, so Adam’s frustrated. He feels like there has to be something that can unlock his memories, but Sharon notes that it can’t be forced. Adam eventually realizes Sharon’s tired, but she promises they’ll get together again soon.

Nikki makes her way to Victoria’s office and gets reassurance that the real estate division is safe. Victoria’s unfinished business involves her vision for the company. She needs a COO who can just step right into the role. “In short, I need you,” Victoria says to Nikki.

Nikki never saw this coming and is quite content heading up real estate, but Victoria pushes Nikki to hear her out. Victoria makes a solid pitch and argues that Victor has nothing to do with this.

Nikki finds that hard to believe. She thinks Victoria’s trying to provoke Victor, but Victoria contends that she’s only doing this because Nikki would be a great fit and she respects her.

Victoria feels bad that Nikki will have to deal with Victor and all his opinions, but she trusts that Nikki will make her own decisions. Victoria would be so proud to be have two strong Newman women running this company.

“Just think about what we could accomplish! Mother and daughter!” Victoria insists. She doesn’t think this has to be complicated and wants to know if Nikki’s in or out.

Nikki goes home to Victor, who rants about Victoria’s betrayal again. After Nikki reveals Victoria asked her to be Newman’s new COO, Nikki admits she said yes. Victor thinks this is good news since he’ll always know what’s going on, but Nikki intends to remain neutral. Victor warns that the time will come that Nikki will have to take sides.

At the penthouse again, Chance stops by and asks Chelsea about Adam’s CEO drama. Chelsea quickly pivots to Abby, so Chance assumes things must be worse than he thought. Chelsea doesn’t want to talk about it, but Chance ends up reflecting on how he kept Adam’s identity a secret – and he did that because Adam seemed happy living as Spider.

Chance doesn’t want to pry, but he vows to serve as a friend if Adam needs one. Once Chance is gone, Adam reconvenes with Chelsea and admits nothing happened.

Chelsea thinks maybe it’s a sign that Adam shouldn’t even be in therapy. Adam intends to keep up his sessions and won’t stop until he gets what he wants. Adam’s counting on getting “the whole damn ugly truth.”

Abby bumps into Jack at Society, so they discuss Victoria’s recent moves and motives. Jack gets updates on Traci’s discovery at home and encourages Abby to join him in heading back there.

Once they walk in, Traci talks about finding only one reel – the reel that must be important to Dina. Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) is busy at work, so she’s given them the green light to watch without her.

Jack feels they should watch without Dina in the room first. That way they can be prepared and figure out what’s so important about this reel. During the home movies, young Dina’s (Cathy Marks) holding newborn “Jackie.”

Young John Abbott (Jonathan Stoddard) talks about how money, success and power are insignificant compared to love and family. That’s what John wants Jack to understand someday.

Jack seems touched as the home movie ends. Later, they’ve shown Dina the footage off screen. Dina had tears in her eyes at one point, but then she shut down again. They thought Dina would have more of a reaction. Jack doesn’t think this was about Dina seeing that movie; it was about them seeing it.

At the cottage, Rey comes home to find Sharon asleep on the couch. He looks annoyed since she’s clearly exhausted from her session with Adam. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Sharon will get even more caught up in Adam’s drama soon, so stay tuned to Y&R.
