The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update summary for Thursday, August 27, teases that we’ll see some powerful revelations and emotional moments. At the ranch, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) leaves Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) a voicemail urging her to get in touch with him about Adam Newman (Mark Grossman).
At the penthouse, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) is apologetic on the phone to Connor Newman’s (Judah Mackey) babysitter. She knows this is last minute and doesn’t know when she’ll be back, but she says to tell Connor everything’s fine.
On the farm in Kansas, Adam talks about seeing dead AJ Montalvo on the floor and knowing he’s responsible. Sharon suggests going elsewhere to talk, but this is what Adam came for and he’s not leaving until he knows everything.
Adam rehashes what he’s remembered and tells Sharon fear wasn’t what motivated him. It was rage. “I wanted to crush the guy. I wanted him dead,” Adam insists.
Sharon doesn’t want Adam to judge himself since he was just a boy protecting his mother. Adam felt never felt remorse and was glad about AJ being gone. Sharon keeps defending Adam and how his mind blocked it out to protect him from terrible guilt. Adam’s remorse has been delayed by decades, so it’s hitting him extra hard.
Sharon can tell Adam’s exhausted and wants him to rest, but he doesn’t know if he can. Sharon promises she isn’t going anywhere. She covers Adam up with a blanket and he dreams of AJ taunting him about his killer instinct.
Soon after, Adam awakens panting and Sharon rushes to his side. Sharon reminds Adam it was a dream and that he’s safe now. She gets that it’s a lot to process, but Adam’s not alone. After Adam steps out, Chelsea appears looking judgmental. “Looks like it’s all working out…exactly as you planned,” Chelsea declares to Sharon.
Chelsea rants about Sharon keeping secrets about where she was going. She feels like Sharon wants to be Adam’s savior and can’t let go of him. Regardless of what Chelsea believes Sharon’s motives are, Adam’s had a major breakthrough. Sharon wants to focus on that.
They continue to argue until Adam returns and Chelsea suggests they should go home. “You’ve done enough,” Chelsea snarls at Sharon.
At the clinic, Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) gets upset with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) for asking so many questions about his romance with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan). Later, Nate clarifies that he’s not mad – though he is a little irritated. He’s also bothered by Elena grilling Amanda and clarifies that they’re just casually dating.
Elena wasn’t jumping to them walking down the aisle or anything. Nate is sensitive about labels and happily ever after due to his history, but he’d like to have what Elena and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) have someday.
At The Grand Phoenix, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) shows up for a meeting with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), who thinks she can put Chance Comm on the map – make it famous even! Victoria can guarantee eyeballs on the new site and promises this is “bigger than big.”
Victoria updates Billy on Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico) being hired to write an expose on Victor being AJ’s killer. They discuss Victor temporarily firing Victoria, and neither one of them can understand why since Victor knew Adam actually did it.
Billy’s floored over Adam being an 11-year-old killer and burying the memory, but he somewhat understands due to his own experience after trying to mow Adam down.
Victoria notes that Alyssa now wants nothing to do with the story and left town. Adam’s blind mother was the only witness. They discuss there being evidence of a cover-up, though Victor may have already gotten rid of it.
Victoria thinks Billy has to dig deeper and be careful about how he tells the story. Billy thinks Victor will connect the dots and know Victoria’s behind this. Victoria’s OK with that. Victor used to be her hero, but heroes tend to disappoint you. Now Victoria’s just dealing with the competition her way.
At Chancellor Communications, Amanda and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) talk about Billy. Lily gets confirmation that Amanda and Billy were sounding boards for each other.
Amanda insists only friendship was between them. She seems upset over this interrogation and wouldn’t have taken the job if there was going to be an issue. Amanda will never do anything to jeopardize their work.
Lily’s thankful for Amanda’s honesty and is grateful to have her expertise. They swing back to Billy and how to minimize the excesses when it comes to him. “So…what? You want me to spy on Billy?”
Amanda asks. “No! Not spy,” Lily argues with a laugh. Billy suddenly appears with a huge story that could drive up traffic on their news site. It could also sink both Victor and Adam.
Billy fills Lily and Amanda in on the story, which launches an argument. Lily realizes Victoria is the source and doesn’t know how they can keep her out of this like Billy wants. She doesn’t like the idea of Victor and his army of lawyers suing them into oblivion.
“This is gonna make us! This is not a time to play it safe!” Billy argues. Lily thinks Billy’s unbelievable for wanting to risk this company without proof. Amanda agrees Billy will need evidence, so Billy promises to find it. Lily thinks they have nothing else to talk about until then, so she takes off to get fresh air.
Billy’s grateful to Amanda, but she finds the whole thing ethically questionable. Billy thinks they need to celebrate Amanda’s incredible problem-solving skills with a drink. Amanda declines and contends that Billy has a lot of work to do – and she’s not talking about the story.
After Lily returns, she makes it clear they need REAL proof. Lily’s worried about hurting their credibility since it could seem like a vendetta. They both have veto power, which Billy respects. Lily won’t stand for Billy making the company his “personal poker table” and has serious reservations.
Billy suggests a bet – not a wager, just a friendly competition. If this story’s as big as Billy expects, he wins. Lily wonders what she’ll win if Billy can’t back it up. “My undying respect and admiration,” Billy quips.
Lily thought she already had that, so Billy admits she does. He promises to do everything he can to make sure Lily feels good about this story, so she vows to hold him to that.
Amanda meets up with Nate at The Grand Phoenix, where they talk work and how Billy’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. They discuss the huge story Billy wants to run – the one with unsubstantiated claims about people with armies behind them.
Lily’s on the fence since she sees the pitfalls but can’t deny the benefits. It could put Chance Comm on the map.
Nate suggests the fall could be just as big. Amanda sometimes feels like Billy’s an evil genius; it can make her feel like an enabler. Nate can tell Billy really gets under Amanda’s skin.
Amanda’s just exhausted over always having to put on the brakes when it comes to Billy. In Thursday’s Y&R episode, Nate guesses it can be pretty exhilarating, too.
Amanda admits that’s the case sometimes, but “Billy Abbott’s safety net” should be in her job description. Nate thinks it sounds like Billy needs Amanda. They’ve found a way to compliment each other and work together – just like Nate and Elena.
Back at the clinic, Elena calls Devon and leaves a voicemail to let him know she’s thinking about him.
At Society, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) runs into Victor, who admits Adam ran off and is in a bad state. Nick thinks Adam will turn up once he finds a way to use this trauma to his advantage.
This is the same game Adam’s been playing with Victor his entire life. Nick rants about Victor always making excuses for his brother. “I don’t feel sorry for him at all,” Nick admits. “I do feel sorry for Victoria.”
On Thursday’s Young and the Restless episode, Nick talks about how Victoria got fed up with Victor’s treatment of her and took a stand. Nick says good for her! He’s also angry over Victor letting Sharon use the jet to track Adam down.
If Sharon has a setback in recovery, it’s going to be on Victor. “Are you forgetting that Adam is your brother?” Victor asks.
Nick doesn’t see why Sharon has to be the one who helps Adam. He argues that Adam has no empathy and never has, but he thinks Adam’s going to be just fine. Connor’s the one who’ll suffer if Adam blows his life up.
Victor assures Nick that he’s not playing favorites, but he does take a special interest in protecting Adam. He would’ve done the same for any of his children.
Nick thinks with Adam, things are different. It all started with the way Victor handled this situation when Adam was a kid. Nick argues he wouldn’t do the same thing with his own son, but he bets Adam would have.
When Nick guesses that’s why Victor connects with Adam more than his other children, Victor calls it “absurd.”
