The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Tuesday, September 22 – Chelsea Cons a New Mark – Amanda’s Twin Separation Mystery Deepens

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Tuesday, September 22, teases that some tight spots are ahead for several Genoa City residents. In the park, Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) all hyped up about family time.

Nick suggests getting all the kids together for a barbeque or a movie night and wants to make bonding like this a weekly thing. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) seems rattled over Nick making plans for the future.

At Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) penthouse, Chelsea’s still listening in on Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) through the bug she planted at Chancellor Communications.

Chelsea admits it’s not exciting she thought it’d be. There’s lots of business talk – and Billy hasn’t mentioned Adam’s name even once today.

Adam thinks that’s a good sign, though he assumes Alyssa Montalvo (Maria DiDomenico is out there doing Billy’s legwork. After Adam brings up who Billy might’ve been talking to the other day, he feels like Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) seems like the type to push back on something like this.

Adam then goes over reasons why Lily might support the story anyway, but Chelsea thinks they have something far more important to discuss.

Adam jokes about lunch in an attempt to avoid the conversation, but Chelsea insists they have to talk about the prep school they discussed sending Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) to.

Adam admits this is hard for him since he already lost so much time with Chelsea and Connor, but Chelsea argues that Adam will be ensuring his son’s safety.

Boarding school is the best place for Connor due to the drama that’s brewing with Adam, Billy and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Chelsea and Adam decide to sell this as an “exciting opportunity” to Connor over lunch.

At Chance Comm, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) talks to Billy about seeing Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) again. Amanda admits Devon gave her a few precious items of Hilary Curtis Hamilton’s (Mishael Morgan), but Billy gets that it’s not enough.

He also understands that Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) is caught in the middle.

“Me? I’m all yours,” Billy says before rethinking how he phrased it. Billy stammers as he tries to explain what he meant, but Amanda gets it. At Devon’s penthouse, Nate drops by to check on him and discuss the news that Amanda is Hilary’s twin.

Devon acknowledges that it’s weird for Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) and that he had to draw the line with Amanda, who’s got so many questions.

Nate points out that he asked about Devon, not Elena or Amanda. How’s Devon really holding up? Devon admits it’s an impossible situation. He’s not going to fall apart, but he hates disappointing anybody.

Devon’s torn because he wants to help Amanda, but he doesn’t want to upset Elena. He also wants to do what Hilary would want, but he feels he’s failing at all three of those things.

On Tuesday’s Young and the Restless episode, Nate suggests Devon should help Amanda since it’ll help Devon as much as her. He notes that Devon isn’t trying to hook up with Amanda, so Devon can be honest with Elena and help her understand that his motives are pure.

At The Grand Phoenix, Summer Newman (Hunter King) admires her engagement ring before tucking the necklace it’s on back in her dress when Phyllis appears. Phyllis notices Summer’s glowing and seems suspicious.

Talk turns to Summer’s spa day, so she bends over to get her membership card and inadvertently shows off her new bling as her purse topples.

Phyllis calls Summer out on the ring and realizes why her daughter’s hiding it. “My eyes! That’s an engagement ring! That’s an engagement ring!” Phyllis says in horror.

Summer launches a speech about how happy she is with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and pushes her mom to be happy for them, too. “Are you out of your mind?!” Phyllis fires back.

Phyllis thinks the timing of this makes no sense. What’s the rush? Kyle and Summer’s house isn’t even finished – and Kyle’s still a married man! Summer argues that they know what they want: a family and a life together. Phyllis insists that all that takes work and warns that getting married now is a mistake.

At Society, Nick comes back for the credit card he left behind and spots Victor, who’s just finished lunch. They talk about Nick’s recent meeting with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) as well as Summer and Kyle’s relationship.

Victor rants about Kyle before Adam walks in, which leads Victor to joke about this Newman family reunion.

By the bar, things are tense as Nick asks about Connor. Before Nick leaves, Adam stops his brother to ask if he ever sent any of kids to boarding school. Nick admits Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) went to one before she came home for Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) cancer crisis, but every kid’s different.

Nick acknowledges that boarding school gave him exactly what he needed when he was younger – and that was being away from all the chaos in Genoa City. He suggested Connor may be the kind of kid who really benefits from boarding school, too.

Once Nick’s gone, Victor lets Adam know he’s been worried about his son. Adam suggests that Victor should be since it’s not every day you learn you killed someone as a child – and that your father covered it up.

Victor advises against announcing it to the whole restaurant. Victor brings up that “pesky reporter from Kansas,” but Adam doesn’t need any help handling it.

When Victor asks about Connor coming by the ranch again, Adam argues that’s not going to happen. Victor counters that Connor is his grandson, and there’s nothing Adam can do about that.

Adam insists that Connor is his son. If Adam says Victor isn’t going to see Connor, then Victor won’t see him. Victor maintains that he’ll see his grandson if he wants to.

Adam brings up the boarding school plan, which Victor admits isn’t a bad idea under the circumstances – though it won’t deter Victor from seeing him. After Adam’s food is ready, he tells Victor that with what’s about to happen, it’s probably best for Connor to be far away from Genoa City.

At the penthouse again, Chelsea talks to Aiden’s mom over the phone. They discuss Aiden’s upcoming playdate with Connor along with the uncomfortable conversation “Chadam’s” about to have with Connor about boarding school.

Back at Chance Comm, Amanda gets emotional talking about Hilary’s letter to Santa. She’ll cherish it forever, but she has so little information on Hilary.

Billy notes that Lily, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and even Jack all knew Hilary well, so he could talk to them for Amanda. She promises to keep that in mind, but she doesn’t know if they’d know anything about Hilary’s history.

Amanda talks to Billy about Hilary’s birth certificate next. She reflects on being left at a fire station in Madison after she was born. Amanda looks at the birth certificate and realizes something strange. Hilary was born in Evanston, Illinois – while Amanda was dropped off in Madison, Wisconsin.

That’s at least two hours away, so Amanda doesn’t think that makes any sense. Rose Turner chose to raise Hilary in Evanston, but why drive two hours to drop off the other baby?

Something’s missing here, so Billy thinks they can get to the bottom of it. He digs online for a while, but Hilary never mentioned anything about Madison in her interviews and didn’t know she had a twin.

Amanda doesn’t feel like they can know that for sure, but Billy doesn’t think the answers are on the Internet. He believes Amanda needs to talk to Devon again, but she doesn’t want to bombard Devon with questions about his dead wife.

Billy suggests hiring someone to dig into this and offers to call Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) for Amanda.

Suddenly, Amanda’s phone rings – and it’s Devon. He addresses the awkwardness from earlier, but he’s willing to give this another try if Amanda’s free.

Amanda’s grateful that Devon’s willing to offer more info on Hilary, so she’ll be right over. Amanda thanks Billy for everything before she goes, then lands at Devon’s penthouse to dive into another Hilary conversation.

Back at the hotel, Phyllis is calmer as she tries to advise against Summer’s engagement. She points out that Summer’s been married twice – and it ended in heartbreak.

Phyllis doesn’t mean to be harsh, but she knows the agonizing pain of thinking it’ll work out this time and being wrong. Summer thinks this is really about Phyllis and Nick – that Phyllis is projecting her fears about Nick onto Summer.

Phyllis denies that and contends that Summer’s projecting instead. Summer ultimately stomps off to the spa, but Phyllis insists this isn’t over. Later, Nick brings Phyllis flowers and wants to talk about plans for their family’s future.

Summer walks in and overhears, which leads to her accusing Phyllis of upstaging her engagement. Nick immediately flips out over Summer’s big news.

Once Adam makes it back to the penthouse on Tuesday’s Y&R episode, he updates Chelsea on running into Nick and Victor at Society. Adam makes it clear that Connor needs to be sent as far away from Victor as possible.

Later, Chelsea brings Adam up to speed on how she convinced Aiden’s mom to send him to St. Mallory’s as well. It was like the good old days of conning a mark, but now Chelsea’s using her powers for good.

Connor’s going to boarding school with his best friend now, so that should help with the transition. Chelsea thinks they have to get back to their real work, so she sits down to listen in on Billy again.
