The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) don’t seem like a couple that’s destined to stay together – not that anyone ever really does on a soap! Even the most fated pairings tend to face breakups along the way. Rey and Sharon appear to be more of a filler couple, not a duo that seems likely to last.
Y&R clearly intended to go with Sharon and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) at one point. That “Shadam” reunion was ultimately scrapped, which led to putting Adam back with Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan).
Rey didn’t have a ton of love interest options or a storyline at the time – and neither did Sharon. In some ways, it felt like The Young and the Restless just threw “Shey” back together for this cancer battle.
To be fair, it was a good idea under the circumstances. Sharon Case and Jordi Vilasuso both got some gripping material out of the drama that played out for their characters.
However, Y&R could easily go in another direction once Sharon’s cancer battle is over and new romantic options open up. The Young and the Restless spoilers point to some issues between Amanda and Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic).
Before new episodes ran out, there were some hints about Nate and Amanda facing some challenges. We haven’t seen those challenges yet, so they must still be to come.
There’s no guarantee Amanda and Nate will stick as a couple once Y&R’s back in production. Amanda would work with a lot of other guys on canvas, but what about Rey? It’s an option that’s at least worth considering!
Rey got chatty with Amanda at the Thanksgiving event for the homeless last year. When Amanda was dealing with all the Ripley Turner (Christian Keyes) drama, Rey helped out with that, too.
It was nice to see Rey giving Amanda gentle reassurance about that horrible situation. Amanda and Rey seem like they might have some sizzling chemistry if given the opportunity to really let it show.
If Sharon and Rey split down the road, they’re going to need new love interests. Amanda and Rey might be a route that The Young and the Restless writers contemplate taking. As other Y&R news and updates emerge, we’ll pass along all the details.
