In tonight’s Coroner episode, Jenny picks up a body of a person in a car crash. She says a quiet prayer. It appears the victim’s name is Roberta. Donovan checks the truck of the car. It is filled with brownie mix. As they look at the body, they realize there is something more here, someone hurt her. She was trying to get away. They wonder what happened. Jenny recognized she is a front-line worker with bruises on her cheeks and nose.
Jenny cleans herself up before heading to examine Roberta’s body. They discover her skull is cracked and she bled out. She was wearing a bedazzled mask but oddly they find a real gem in her forehead. Meanwhile, Donovan discovers Roberta was working in a long-term care facility. Jenny and Donovan head to visit the facility. Jenny learns she got into a physical fight with a patient’s relatives. Jenny and Donovan think after she left work she was attacked.
Jenny heads home. Her dad is in the kitchen. She checks the mail. There is a letter from Liam. She doesn’t want to open it. She asks her dad to hold onto it. He laughs, he has dementia.
Back at work, Donovan sees footage of a man at the nursing home on video, screaming he wants to see his mom. He is wearing a large ring. The next night, Jenny and Donovan go to a vigil for Roberta, hoping the suspect shows. Jenny meets Roberta’s grandfather. He tells Jenny how Roberta loved helping people. Donovan sees the suspect and chases after him. He escapes outside. Inside at the vigil, Jenny sees Roberta.
Jenny realizes after seeing Donovan singing karaoke that they are both high. They ate weed brownies being passed out at the vigil. Later, Donovan questions the suspect. He confesses he hit Roberta. He was mad he couldn’t see his mom because of COVID. There is a jewel missing from his ring.
Donovan leaves to find Jenny sleeping in her car. They talk about the case before Donovan takes off for an appointment. Jenny finds herself visiting Roberta’s grandfather. He lives on a farm. He is growing marijuana and various other plants. She thinks about blood thinners and how Roberta bled out. She mentions this. He gets very upset.
Donovan has his leg looked at. He broke it last year. His doctor tells him he needs more tests. He gets worried. At the office, Jenny learns Roberta had a certain substance in her blood but they were not in the plants.
Jenny learns that Roberta previously reported her facility for no proper PPE. She in turn was also in trouble for giving residents marijuana brownies. They also look at the video footage. They see a co-worker swapping out bottles of antibacterial when it was Roberta’s shift. The liquid poisoned Roberta. They arrest him. Jenny tells her grandfather. He breaks down.
At the doctor’s, they take fluid from Donovan’s spine. Jenny comes home to her son scared. He lost his grandfather on a walk. They find him by a river. She finds the letter from Liam in his coat. On her way back to the house she sees Clark. He tells her he has received a tip about her sister’s death and it involved her dad. He wants her off of the inquest. She gets mad.
