Now that Paulina’s plans have been exposed, there are a lot of angry Salemites. Perhaps one of the people that is hurt the most is Abe.
Abe was developing real feelings for Paulina. He doesn’t get romance often in the soap, so this truly hurt him.
In fact, Days spoilers for the week of July 12 confirm that Abe is heartbroken. He is feeling so devastated that others begin to worry about him.

James Reynolds Teases Consequences
Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that Reynolds teased there could be bigger consequences for Abe than just a broken heart. Reynolds told Soap Opera Digest that part of Abe’s anger comes from his job being put at risk.
“He’s the mayor of this city and she put him in a position where he could have been kicked out of office! Abe’s political career could be going up in smoke, and so is his relationship with the woman who caused all of this.”

Of course, it’s understandable that Abe slips into a depression due to being used and heartbroken. However, he values his position as mayor and possibly had his sights set on going even higher in the political ranks.
The residents of Salem and even others in office may question Abe’s judgment and character. Scandals in politics can destroy careers, especially if people feel that they can’t trust the person they voted into office.
So, could part of Abe’s depression be about his destroyed career? Even if he isn’t asked to resign, he might feel so guilty that he could consider stepping down voluntarily. We will have to keep watching to find out what the future holds for Abe.
