Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Friday, August 20, reveals that Claire Brady (Isabel Durant) was finally the maid of honor as Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal) wed on the spot. Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) and Belle Brady (Martha Madison) also faced a tough goodbye, so here’s how it all played out on Friday’s DOOL episode.
At Basic Black, Belle was there on Eric Brady’s (Greg Vaughan) behalf and passed along the initial divorce paperwork to Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker).
Nicole seemed somber over the end of her marriage, but she acknowledged her mistakes and pointed out Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) was partially responsible, too.
As Belle suggested “payback’s a bitch,” EJ DiMera (Dan Feurriegel) showed up and so was Sami! Belle didn’t mind EJ saying so since she knew what her scheming sister was like.
Once Belle left, EJ thanked Nicole for alerting him to Sami’s infidelity and assured her he was very happy to know the truth.
Nicole said that was a “crock” and annoyed EJ by insisting there was pain underneath his anger.
EJ kept his angry guard up anyway, so Nicole warned that his emotional suffering might eat him alive if he didn’t tackle it head-on.
Talk turned to Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and the filmmaking career that EJ disapproved of.
Since Johnny was always fond of Nicole as his former stepmother, EJ thought maybe she could talk him into joining the family business.
“Please tell me you’re not trying to pimp me out to your son,” an annoyed Nicole said.
EJ assured Nicole that wasn’t his intention and ultimately decided he needed to be the one to handle things anyway. He declared that he’d get Johnny to come around one way or another.
At home, Ciara apologized to Claire and assured her that she remembered their friendship.
Ciara was thankful that Claire was willing to spend a night in jail to help her and wanted things to go back to how they used to be between them.
Claire was ecstatic and hugged Ciara right before Shawn walked in on the sweet moment. After Ciara left and Belle showed up, Claire dropped a bomb on her parents.
Claire told Shawn and Belle that she was moving to South Africa to work as Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson) and JJ Deveraux’s (Casey Moss) social media person.
Although Belle and Shawn hated to bid their daughter farewell, Claire convinced them this was something she really wanted to do. She now felt in control of her insecurities and had the courage to go off on her own, so Shawn and Belle gave Claire their support.
At the townhouse on Friday’s Days episode, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) got a visit from Ben.
Ciara later joined them was surprised when Ben put his crutches aside and got down on one knee to propose.
After Ciara accepted Ben’s proposal, she learned Marlena had already agreed to marry them. Marlena suggested they could do it right there, right now – and Ciara was clearly enthusiastic over the idea.
John Black (Drake Hogestyn) happily agreed to be the blissful couple’s witness.
In the town square, Johnny gushed over Henry Horton (Jayna and Kinsley Fox) and was sorry about what Charlie Dale (Mike Manning) put Allie through. Allie was excited over Johnny’s new independent film, so he was glad to have someone who supported the idea.
Johnny complained about EJ before the conversation shifted to his love life. He admitted he didn’t have a girlfriend, but there was a girl he was interested in getting to know better.
Before Allie could grill Johnny, she got a phone call from Ciara.
Since Allie still had Ciara’s phone due to the kidnapping drama, Ciara wondered if Allie would bring it to Marlena’s place.
After Allie rushed off, Johnny checked out the nearby storefront and wondered what the heck a sweet bit was.
Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) waltzed over and told Johnny not to knock it until he tried it and revealed that was her bakery. Johnny spoke some Italian and told Chanel he’d like to sample her sweet bits.
Chanel pointed out it wasn’t open yet, so she invited Johnny to have lunch first instead.
Back at the townhouse, Claire showed up along with Shawn and Belle. After Claire revealed her South Africa job plans to everyone, Ciara encouraged Claire to be a friend to Theo while she was there.
Ciara also asked Claire to finally be her maid of honor since she was about to get married, so Claire was thrilled.
Allie arrived soon after and got updates on the wedding that was about to happen. She was more than willing to give the maid of honor spot to Claire and agreed to stick around to watch.
Ben and Ciara expressed their gratitude to both Claire and Allie before the ceremony began.
Ben urged Marlena to skip all the fluff at the beginning, so they moved ahead to speeches and vows.
Ciara talked about her intense connection with Ben, and he talked about how she’d healed him – though they cracked jokes about his injured ankle.
After Ben and Ciara exchanged rings, they were pronounced husband and wife. Days ended the heartwarming episode with a kiss between Ciara and Ben as they remained on cloud nine.
