Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Friday, December 31, teases that Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal) asked Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) why the devil wanted her baby – and it was revealed that Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman). Let’s talk about how all Friday’s DOOL drama played out.
In the town square, Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) caught Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) muttering about what he did for love and thought it sounded like a guilty confession.
Lucas claimed he felt bad because he tried to get Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) to accept EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) was her kidnapper.
Allie was upset when Lucas said Sami wasn’t giving up on EJ. She thought what EJ did was cruel, sadistic and unforgivable.
Talk eventually turned to Johnny and Chanel DiMera’s (Raven Bowens) new marriage, so Lucas reminded Allie that people make their own choices.
Lucas feared Chanel and Johnny could cut Allie out of their lives if she didn’t get on board, so Allie knew what she had to do.
At the bar, Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) got updates on the “proof” that EJ kidnapped Sami and asked what kind of man terrorizes the mother of his children.
Sami cried as she wondered what she was supposed to do with the rest of her life, but Gabi felt she would mourn the loss and figure it out.
Gabi said she was one of Sami’s biggest fans and offered to bail on Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) to stay with her.
However, Sami insisted that Gabi should go kiss the man she loves at midnight and admitted she already had plans to cry into a pillow!
At the DiMera mansion, Johnny wasn’t feeling very well and opted out of any major New Year’s Eve partying. He urged Chanel to go out and enjoy herself, but she wanted to stay there and take care of her sick husband.
Chanel brought Johnny some tea before the conversation shifted to Allie’s reaction to their marriage.
Johnny mentioned that things had always been so competitive between them as twins. He wasn’t sure Allie was over the fact that she lost Chanel’s heart to him.
Johnny tried to share some kisses with Chanel since she’d already been exposed to whatever he had.
However, Johnny’s nose was too stuffed up to really make out. He suggested watching a romantic movie in bed together and picked one that brought Chanel to tears.
At the hospital, Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) bumped into Marlena and was glad to see her back to her old self.
Marlena apologized for everything that had gone down, but Tripp knew it wasn’t her fault.
As John Black (Drake Hogestyn) joined Marlena by the elevator, Tripp wished them both a happy new year and took off.
In the town square, Tripp interrupted Allie and Lucas’ conversation. Lucas pretended to have plans for New Year’s Eve and urged Allie to go have a great time with Tripp.
Before Lucas took off, Allie reminded him of her love and insisted her dad didn’t have anything to feel guilty about.
Next on Friday’s Days episode, Jake visited Ciara and Ben Weston’s (Robert Scott Wilson) apartment to offer a New Year’s Eve invitation.
Jake and Gabi were going to celebrate, so he hoped Ben and Ciara would join the fun. They declined since they wanted to relax after all the devil drama.
Jake heard some of the details and wondered “what the hell” possessed Marlena wanted with their child anyway.
Ciara and Ben didn’t know, but they were glad the devil had been cast out. Jake said he couldn’t wait to meet Baby Weston as he dashed off to join Gabi.
Afterward, Marlena stopped by with John since she wanted to ask Ben and Ciara’s forgiveness.
Ben said that wasn’t necessary, but Marlena hoped maybe there was something she could do to make it up to them or make things easier somehow.
Ciara admitted there was one thing and asked why the devil had gone after their baby. Marlena only remembered emotions and images from her time under the devil’s control.
Marlena had no real memories, but she promised Ciara would be the first person to know if she remembered anything at all.
Ben and Ciara expressed their gratitude to Marlena for everything she’d done in the past.
Marlena had been told that she encouraged Ciara and Ben to start a family while possessed, but Ciara suggested they would’ve done it anyway. After Marlena voiced how proud she was of Ben and Ciara, Ben pulled her into a warm embrace.
Once Jake met up with Gabi, he found out Sami was having a rough time, but he assumed she’d land on her feet.
After Gabi got a notification on her phone about EJ being out at DiMera Enterprises, she shared a big kiss with Jake. Gabi and Jake were thrilled over their plans to run Titan and DiMera in the new year.
At the pub, Lucas sat alone and read about EJ losing his job. He thought that was something at least, but Sami came in moments later with even better news.
Sami was done with EJ for good and wanted to begin again with Lucas. After Lucas asked if Sami was sure, she confirmed that she was.
At the townhouse, John made sure Marlena was cozy with a blanket on the sofa.
While John was out of the room, Marlena turned on the TV and freaked out over the static. She had a flashback involving the devil’s reign of terror and remained rattled when John returned.
However, John fixed the channel and mentioned needing to call the cable company. He comforted Marlena before she insisted there was nowhere she’d rather be than right there with him.
At the DiMera mansion again, Allie came in Johnny and Chanel’s bedroom with Tripp by her side. She was sorry for how she acted and suggested if she had it to do over, she would’ve just congratulated Chanel and Johnny on their marriage.
Allie revealed the Italian sparkling wine she brought and was hopeful about them all ringing in the new year together.
Chanel accepted Allie’s apology on behalf of her husband – and although Johnny was feeling under the weather, he thought he could take a shower and rally in time for the countdown.
Unfortunately, Johnny didn’t make it down in time, so Chanel looked bummed as she watched Tripp and Allie share their midnight kiss.
Days fans saw Jake make out with Gabi while John and Marlen shared their own sweet smooch. Sami planted a big one on Lucas while Ben and Ciara created their own kissing fireworks.
Meanwhile, Johnny donned a red suit as he stepped in front of the mirror with glowing yellow eyes and a deepened voice.
“Happy New Year, Salem. You didn’t really think you were getting rid of me that easily, did you?” possessed Johnny said with an evil smile.
