Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Monday, October 4, reveals that Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) recommended that Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) be committed to Bayview – and Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) made a Paris confession. Abe Carver (James Reynolds) also faced a pie crisis, so here’s how all the Days drama went down.
At Basic Black, EJ DiMera (Dan Feurriegel) arrived to pick up Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) for their date and found her with Duke the teddy bear. EJ pointed out that the first thing he did after splitting with Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) was get rid of everything of hers in the house.
EJ thought it’d be easier for Nicole to get over her feelings for Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) if she got rid of this silly reminder of him. After EJ threw Duke in the trash, Nicole acted like it was no big deal. She started to walk out with EJ before claiming she forgot her phone and then removing the bear from the wastebasket.
Once EJ and Nicole were on their date at Julie’s Place, EJ was pleased over his favorite wine and favorite vintage. They shared a toast to moving on before Nicole noted that it was the most expensive wine on the list.
EJ admitted he’d always had an appreciation for the finer things in life and thought Nicole did, too. However, EJ assumed Rafe was more of a beer and pretzels kind of guy! When EJ kept bringing up Rafe, Nicole scolded him for it. EJ decided Nicole was right – that tonight was about moving on from Rafe and Sami.
At the Salem PD, Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) stopped by and wondered if Rafe wanted to go out to dinner with her. They decided on Julie’s Place and ended up finding Nicole at a table with EJ. The four of them had an awkward interaction, especially after Rafe guessed EJ and Nicole were having a business dinner. EJ assured Rafe that his night with Nicole was about pure pleasure!
At Paulina’s place, Abe told Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) that he wanted to ask her mom to marry him. He wondered how Chanel would feel about that, so Chanel talked about how she didn’t really know what it was like to have a dad since hers died when she was young.
Chanel imagined it’d be great to have a stepdad like Abe – and he imagined it’d be great to have a stepdaughter like her, too. Abe was thrilled to get Chanel’s blessing since he was planning a special marriage proposal dinner. He called Olivia Price (Marla Adams) to get a list of all Paulina’s favorite dishes, including pecan pie for dessert.
Chanel’s face fell as she insisted “Big Mama” messed up since Paulina hated pecan pie. She said key lime pie was what Paulina liked best and eventually helped Abe whip one up.
In the town square on Monday’s Days episode, Lani Price-Grant (Sal Stowers) did her part by stalling Paulina. After Lani made up a story about wanting to take Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) on a trip as a gift, Paulina started gushing over all the wonderful cities to choose from.
The conversation took an uncomfortable turn when Paulina suggested Paris since that’s where she promised to take Lani to as a child – though they never made it there. Paulina was so sorry and wanted to clear the air, so Lani ignored the text from Abe giving her the all clear and let Paulina proceed.
Paulina was so sorry for breaking Lani’s little heart and admitted a business trip wasn’t the real reason she bailed on taking her to Paris. Lani was stunned to learn both Paulina and Tamara Price (Marilyn McCoo) lied. She wanted to know why, so Paulina explained she was being selfish when she made that Paris promise – though she left out the part about being Lani’s true mother!
Paulina felt it was wrong to make secret plans with Lani and cut Tamara out. When Tamara learned what was going on, she shut Paulina down hard. Lani assumed it was because Tamara thought the trip was too extravagant – and Paulina insisted her sister was right. She was proud of the woman Lani had become and felt spoiling her wouldn’t have done her any favors.
Although Paulina wouldn’t blame Lani if she never forgave her, Lani insisted she already had. She asked Paulina not to worry about this anymore and expressed her love. After Lani gave Paulina a hug, she got a text from an impatient Abe and suggested Paulina had earned a glass of wine at home.
Once Paulina made it back to her apartment, she was ecstatic over the romantic setup. Chanel was still there as Abe talked about making all Paulina’s favorite dishes, but Paulina balked at the key lime pie. She wondered who told Abe that was her favorite and insisted she actually hated it, so Chanel looked distraught.
At the hospital, Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) found John Black (Drake Hogestyn) in Marlena’s office with the tape recorder. John explained it was Doug’s session tape, so Kayla reminded him that it was protected under doctor-patient confidentiality. She hoped John wasn’t thinking of listening, so John confessed he was tempted since he was so concerned about Doug.
In Doug’s room on Monday’s DOOL episode, he pressed the call button following Marlena’s attack on Julie. Doug then tried to wrestle the tray away right as Kayla burst through the door. Marlena lied that Doug was the one who delivered the blow to Julie’s head and argued that he needed to be sedated. Kayla thought Marlena was right, so she indeed sedated Doug for his own good.
Julie came to at one point and had her head examined, but she was reluctant to believe Doug could’ve done something like this. As for Marlena, she spoke with John privately and argued that Doug was more of a threat to Julie than they previously thought. Marlena insisted Doug wanted to kill Julie and then learned Doug said Marlena tried to kill him.
When Julie appeared, she felt like Marlena had it wrong – that her darling Doug would never attack her. Julie suggested everyone was frightening Doug, but Marlena said Julie needed to face the truth.
Possessed Marlena argued that in her professional opinion, Doug had become a danger to himself and others. Marlena’s recommendation was that Doug be committed to Bayview. Back in Doug’s room, he said a prayer for Julie’s safety.
