General Hospital Spoilers: Has GH Become Too Dark & Depressing? – Fans Speak Out About Port Charles’ Streak of Doom & Gloom

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Franco Baldwin’s (Roger Howarth) death got fans buzzing in more ways than one. There’s naturally been plenty of talk about whether it was the right decision to kill Franco off and about who Roger Howarth will be playing once he makes his promised return to the show.

However, we want to focus on a different issue – and that’s the death itself. In fact, we want to talk about many deaths and seemingly endless destruction on GH. Port Charles has become a dark and depressing place these days, so we want to know how you feel about that.

Do you like the heavy, hard-hitting drama or do you wish General Hospital writers would find a better balance? It does seem like it’s been nonstop doom and gloom for a while now.

Just in the last several months, we’ve seen Mike Corbin (Max Gail) die – and then Dev Cerci (Ashton Arbab) met a grim fate following the explosion at The Floating Rib.

Dustin Phillips’ (Mark Lawson) life was also cut short that day – and then Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) fell into a long-term coma soon after.

Julian Jerome (William deVry) faced a lengthy exit arc that really highlighted how dead-dead he was. GH fans know Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) is alive, but his friends and family members have had to mourn the loss in Port Charles.

That still meant a funeral and all the usual drama surrounding a death.

Nelle Benson’s (Chloe Lanier) demise wasn’t one that most PC residents were torn up about, but it’s affected Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) deeply. Now Franco is dead and his family’s left to mourn for him. That means more gloomy scenes and heartbreak to get through.

The performers involved here are doing a fantastic job, so that’s certainly not a problem. Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Baldwin) and William Lipton (Cameron Webber) in particular have done some stellar work.

Even so, some viewers would like to see some stories that aren’t quite so somber.

Maybe a little more action and even some comedic elements would be beneficial. Let’s look at some comments from General Hospital fans on Twitter and try to get a feel for how people are reacting right now.

“The entirety of this show is now dismally dark and depressing..I want to see love and hijinks on my soap..not continuous mob…and death!” one GH watcher insisted. “Too much death and darkness on GH now. I’m so tired of it,” another fan said.

“The lack of romance was bad enough but this was 1 death too many,” one more fan tweeted.

Bottom line, things are perhaps getting a bit too gloomy in Port Charles! It wouldn’t hurt to brighten things up and get away from so many grim outcomes. We’ll offer updates as other GH news pops up.
