General Hospital Spoilers: Is Nelle Coming Back from the Dead? – Always Meant to Be Nina’s Daughter Say GH Writers

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Nelle Benson’s (Chloe Lanier) true fate remains unknown, but no body means there’s always a chance for her return. Is Nelle coming back from the dead? That possibility’s still on the table now that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) knows who her biological daughter is.

As we ponder Nelle’s potential return, we want to focus on this buried link between Nelle and Nina. In a recent interview with Michael Fairman, GH Co-Head Writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor opened up about the path to Nina learning Nelle is her child.

They made a shocking claim that has many fans wondering if they’re really giving the facts!

“The truth is, the idea that Nelle was Nina’s daughter has been a part of the conception of that character, and over the last few years, the story evolved, and we ultimately got to reveal the truth to the audience,” O’Connor said.

We’re not sure we buy that Nelle was always meant to be Nina’s flesh and blood. If that’s the case, why give Nelle this backstory with Frank Benson and all the kidney drama?

It’s a stretch to think that selfish Frank would’ve been willing to adopt a child with his wife at all, so GH writers have already had to stretch to make this story work.

There’s also the matter of that huge feud Nina had with Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) back when Willow was Charlotte Cassadine’s (Scarlett Fernandez) teacher. Come on!

Willow was totally meant to be Nina’s daughter at that point in the story. Something changed behind the scenes eventually and led to this revelation that Nelle was Nina’s child.

Of course, there were some warm moments further back between Nina and Nelle – like when Nelle was working as Charlotte’s nanny. You could argue that Nina was rather motherly to Nelle back then, so we could still buy that the idea of Nelle being Nina’s daughter was tossed around in the writers’ room.

However, it’s just tough to believe that was the firm plan from the get-go when Nelle was created. Why would they wait years and kill Nelle off before ever revealing it to Nina if this bio daughter connection was in play from the start? It goes against soap logic.

It seems more like an option that was considered along the way and settled on for sure once this idea of Nina finding out after Nelle’s death became a dramatic route to take.

Regardless, General Hospital spoilers say Nina will seek justice for Nelle and will try to stake her claim on Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos (Erik and Theo Olson) in the weeks ahead.

It’s worth mentioning that Van Etten and O’Connor spoke about Chloe Lanier’s work in present tense – perhaps indicating she’s not done yet. Van Etten suggested it’s fun “when you take a really great performer like Chloe and see her as Nelle unleash all of the poison that she’s capable of.

At the same time, she can turn on a dime and rip your heart out a little bit when she turns on the water works.”

Since O’Connor and Van Etten are claiming Nelle was meant to be Nina’s daughter from the very beginning, they really should bring Lanier back so that the story doesn’t feel incomplete.

Nina deserves an opportunity to “save” Nelle – or at least try! We’ll fill you in as other GH news and updates emerge.
