In tonight’s Magnum P.I. episode, Magnum and Higgins arrested a man for bail jumping. They wanted to collect the bounty and they would have if the county hadn’t been full and they weren’t force to take him somewhere else. They went to HPD. They asked Detective Katsumoto to put him in his holding cell until the holidays. Katsumoto agreed to it, then HPD was targeted by hackers. The hackers were demanding five million in bitcoin.

They were threatening to wipe their hard drives and destroy all the cases and evidence on their computers. HPD either had to pay or let hundreds if not thousand of criminals go. HPD considered paying the ransom and unfortunately they couldn’t. They didn’t have the resources to find five million in bitcoin. And paying the ransom would leave them open to future hacks.

People who get inspired by what this hacker or hackers has done. But if the police capture everyone responsible for the hack, it would be a deterrent and they would save the money. HPD couldn’t book anyone in the meantime. This meant that Magnum had to take his prisoner to Kumu. She was making dinner because it was Christmas Eve and she didn’t have the time or the patience to babysit.

She only agreed to do it once she found out that Barry was harmless. He was a low-level criminal. He had skipped bail to get his son a PS5 and he was trying to buy one at a pawnshop. All the stores were sold out and it was the only thing his son wanted for Christmas. Barry was harmless. He was dumb but harmless.

Kumu agreed to watch him. She needed help in the kitchen as well. Kumu had Barry and Magnum and Higgins were going to help HPD when they noticed that Lia was missing. At first, they thought she left the station because Magnum invited her and her mom to have Christmas dinner with his family and she told him she’d think about it. He thought he she was trying to avoid him. But then Higgins proved the hack from Lia’s computer.

They pinged her cell phone and they found out she was meeting with Johnny Kim. Kim was the head of Hawaiian most powerful syndicate. It didn’t make sense why Lia would meet with him so soon after the hack and so Magnum followed her. He tried to spy on her.

Magnum ended up getting caught by Kim’s security team. They brought him to Kim who was still talking to Lia and Lia was shocked to see Magnum. She also had to come clean. Kim is her father. He didn’t raise her or had anything to do with her growing up. She only found out he was her father when she was a teenager.

He didn’t want anything to do with her. The only person who did was her half-brother Pin. Pin was the one person to reach out. Lia suspected her brother was behind the hack. He crashed at her place one night and she had her laptop there. He was gone the next morning and she doesn’t know where. She went to his apartment. He had moved. He wasn’t answering any phone calls and so Lia knew Pin was involved in the attack.

Higgins found Pin’s current address. Lia and Magnum went there and they found a man tied up in the closet. His name is David. He works for Kokua Tech Support and he was the guy that HPD called to help them with the hack. The hack as it turns out was a distraction. HPD was questioning a witness and they found out that the witness was against Pin and Lia’s father. Pin and his father had a falling out. They fell out after he made a mistake.

This wasn’t unusual for Pin and so they learned the break in the relationship and the reason Pin got cut off from his father is because he brought in someone who turned against them. He brought in a rat. The rat was now talking to the police about the company Pin ran for his father and the syndicate.

Pin therefore used his sister to hack HPD. They then kept changing their demands until their guy could get to the informant and now the informant is gone. The guy disappeared from the interrogation room. Higgins used her skills to check nearby areas looking for Pin and Lia mentioned a family home that’s hidden and out of the way.

Her brother Pin took the hostage there. Pin was torturing the guy to find out what he said when Lia showed up with Magnum and Higgins. They created a distraction. They then took out all of them and Lia was able to get her brother to come in peacefully. Pin hadn’t been acting alone. He had been working with people his father controls and so the father did know what he was doing. And he gave his approval.

But Pin wouldn’t cut a deal if it meant turning against his father. He wouldn’t even do it for Lia and so her father gets to walk yet again. Lia later didn’t feel like celebrating. She didn’t go to Christmas dinner. Magnum and Higgins went without her. They found Barry still in Kumu’s care. Kumu managed to get the PS5 for his son and so now he was a happy camper. And Cade got to enjoy his first real Christmas in a while.

The gang all chipped in. They got Cade a car and he had felt weird about the gift. His definition of family used to mean his mom, but now he’s realizing it could be the people he choose to have in his life.

THE END!
