In tonight’s Masterchef episode, the episode begins with Gordon Ramsay welcoming Sherry Yard into the MasterChef Legends kitchen, she is a legend herself in the dessert and pastry world. We begin with a bittersweet elimination challenge; the home cooks will have to prepare a restaurant-quality dessert. Joe Bastianich says that being a legend you cook what you know as an expert and you cook what you don’t know with an open mind; that flexibility is the difference between good and iconic. Aaron Sanchez adds that the Sherry Yard is one of the most influential pastry chefs in the world.

Sherry says her grandmother was her biggest inspiration, she used to make her taste with a blindfold on. Mary Jayne is so overwhelmed by seeing Sherry that she is in tears; Gordon tells her to go on up and get a hug.

The home cooks can make any dessert they want. Sherry says she is looking for delicious desserts. Gordon says the winner will win $5000 worth of kitchen appliances from Breville. They have ninety minutes to prepare a stunning restaurant-quality dessert.

Tay is so excited, he is going to put sugar and spice and everything nice in his desert. Lexy is nervous, deserts are not her thing. Gordon is worried about Alejandro, he is making apple pie but started with ice cream and they are already thirty minutes in. Tay is using canned fruit, his pineapple upside-down cake is going to be a risk. Matt using black garlic in a cake, Joe is worried and Aaron tells him to be careful it could overwhelm the taste in his flourless cake.

Annai is making an avocado cheesecake, Gordon is surprised that she is using the avocado as a fruit. Gordon tells her that he really hopes she bounces back after the tacos last week. Autumn is worried about her tart, she is trying really hard. The home cooks are in their last thirty minutes. Lexy overcooked her cakes and has to start all over again, she regrets her choice and doesn’t want to go home. She hopes the judges see her effort and like her final dessert.

Anne says she is not a baker, but she is there to learn. She is making an olive oil rosemary cake. Fifteen minutes remaining. Michael is nervous, he is really not a baker. Everyone is very focused. Aaron tells the other judges that Matt put twelve cloves of black garlic in his dish and is going to back it up with sugar. The home cooks are in their last five minutes, Gordon tells them to start plating and taste everything.

The judges go around to see what the home cooks prepared. There were several good dishes, the first home cook’s dessert that the judges would like to take a deeper look at is Lexy who made a Molten Lava Cake with Macerated Berries and White Chocolate Drizzle. Gordon cuts into it and says it is beautiful, he tastes it and says it is delicious, she bounced back. Lexy is praised by all the judges. Tay is next, he made Pineapple Upside-Down Cake with Cherry Compote and Lemon Zest Whipped Cream. Gordon says it is delicious and he can’t believe he is eating canned fruit.

Aaron says it is a soulful desert. Next, they would like to taste Anne’s dish, she made Olive Oil Rosemary Cake with Blueberry Compote and Whipped Crème Fraiche. Joe loves the visual, he says she is a force to be reckoned with. Gordon says it has a makings of a great dessert. Lexy, Tay, and Anne are in the top three. But there is a fourth top dessert tonight, it is Michael and he made Cannoli Cake with Chocolate Espresso Ganache and Toasted Pine Nuts. Sherry likes the fudgy frosting on the outside and the cake is spongy and delicate. Gordon says he would have toasted the pine nuts a touch more, but he nailed the batter. Aaron says it reminds him of Little Italy, Joe agrees.

The winner is Tay and all four are safe from elimination.

Three dishes did not meet their standards, the first one is Abe who made a Pomegranate Tart with Pistachio Brittle and Italian Meringue. Sherry says it looks elegant but underbaked. Gordon cuts into it and it’s not set. Joe says that the dish reflects immaturity and Aaron says it was flawed. Annai is next, she made Avocado “no-bake” Cheesecake with Dragon Fruit Cream and Mango Sauce. Gordon says she is shocked that the base of the cheesecake pan is underneath. Sherry says it is more like a dip than a cake. Gordon says she rushed it, if she had baked it, it would have been much better.

Sherry says the large mold was a recipe for disaster. Joe says to not bake anything in a baking challenge is a recipe for disaster. The last home cooks dish they want to see is Matt, he made a Black Garlic Chocolate Cake with Spiced Ganache, Whipped Cream, and Ginger Raspberry Coulis. Gordon says he is worried about the garlic and it isn’t working. Joe says it is bitter. Sherry says the flavors don’t sing for her. Aaron says the density of the chocolate was able to squash the flavor of the chocolate a bit.

The person leaving MasterChef is Annai.
