In tonight’s episode of My 600-lb Life, Chrystal Rollins is thirty-nine years old. Her weight is unknown. Chrystal calls life at her size a never-ending struggle because she has to wear oxygen all the time and she has problems with navigating her body. Her body can no longer withstand the weight of its current size. She can’t stand for more than a minute and she’s forced to rely heavily on her family.

Her mother, her younger brother, and even her two daughters help to take care of her. Her daughter Ivoriana is in charge of getting her up in the morning. She also has to help to reach the bathroom and for her seat to be arranged for her so that she can cook their meals while still seated down. And so Chrystal wasn’t really functioning.

Chrystal was existing. There’s a difference and Chrystal’s problems stem from childhood. Her mother was a single mother. She was twenty-one when she had Chrystal and she couldn’t support on her own and so she moved in with her mother and grandmother. Chrystal’s grandmother and great-grandmother. Chrystal’s mom had to work odd hours and so Chrystal felt starved for attention.

The only time she would get to see her mother was at breakfast. Her mother made a point of being there at meals and so that’s where Chrystal felt the most comfortable. Chrystal weighed over a hundred pounds as a child. She kept getting bigger and things really began to spiral after she was molested by a family member.

Chrystal told her mother. Her mother made her feel like she had to hide it and so that caused a breakdown in their relationship. Chrystal stopped trusting her mom. She turned to food and eventually she saw all guys as just wanting one thing from her. She let them use her for sex. She didn’t have the self-esteem to realize she deserved better and it continued to get worse as she started to date increasingly violent men.

The men would be all nice at first. They would convince her to move in with them and only after she has done so do they start to change. They make remarks at first. They became emotionally abusive. This soon turned to physical violence and the man who fathered her children had almost killed her.

It had taken her young daughter running out into the street shouting for help before this man was pulled off of her. He would have beaten her to death and she only survived it because of her child. The same child that’s most likely emotionally scarred having to witness such an encounter. Chrystal left the father of her two daughters and she forgave her mother. Her mother now helps to take care of her.

Her younger brother as well. Although, neither were there for her as much as her two daughters. Ivoriana and Tatiana are there with their mom on the day-to-day. They themselves are overweight and the unhealthy lifestyle the mother has taught them will eventually catch to them as well. And so it’s important for her daughters to see Chrystal get better now before it’s too late.

Chrystal wants to lose weight. She heard about Dr. Now and she was willing to do anything in order to be taken on as a patient. She even packed up her life. She knows that she has to move to Houston to be closer to the doctor and so she was moving there now before ever seeing him. Chrystal wanted to show him that she was ready. She wants to do his program and to qualify for weight-loss surgery.

Chrystal also knows that her body can’t handle such a long trip more than once. She wants to make it in one go and so she asked her brother Josh to help. Josh rearranged his whole life to help. Only for him to see the parts they’ve been hiding from him. Josh saw how dirty the house was and it was infested with bugs. He tried to tell his sister and his nieces how dirty they’ve been living and they the younger got an attitude with him. They thought they were fine.

When they weren’t. People shouldn’t be living in infested homes and they shouldn’t be eating like they’re eating or sitting home all day like they’ve been doing. Chrystal and her daughters needed to change their lifestyles. They had to start living better or else they’ll fall back into the same patterns. The ladies all traveled to Houston from San Diego with Josh. The trip was long and they had to make stops.

They went to one hotel where they were given a room on the third floor, but this was an issue because Chrystal was afraid of elevators. She tried to buck up and to use the elevator. She stepped it once before she went “nope”. It had apparently dipped down when she stepped on it and her finger had gotten caught in the middle and so her finger was left bleeding. She had to treat it. She also had required a room on the ground level.

Josh thankfully arranged for a different room. They got a new one that Chrystal could reach and unfortunately, she later learned that the bed was too high for her to climb. She was going to go with sleeping in the wheelchair. Except she didn’t like that idea.

She knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep properly and so her family had to lift her into bed. It took all three of them only she got in there. She was able to fall asleep. She also got to rest her body after an arduous journey and by the next morning, she was able to finish the drive. Chrystal had made it to Dr. Now. Her visit to his offices was the first time she had been weighed in years and that too had been a disappointment. Chrystal thought she would be just below six hundred.

Chrystal claims she’s been trying to cut back in preparation for the appointment. She was therefore disappointed to learn she was 611 lbs and she had said at the time that it made her more focused than ever on losing the weight. She was nearing forty. Her daughters were going into high school. She wanted to be there to see the rest of their lives and so she needed to make this work.

She spoke to Dr. Now. She told him her history. She even mentioned the sexual abuse that started when she was eight. Chrystal was unaware that she suffered from significant body odor and that her hygiene leaves a lot to be desired. Dr. Now noticed it. He sees it a lot with some of his patients. He, therefore, knew what it would take to help Chrystal with a diet and to arrange for her to see someone for therapy.

Chrystal was given an appointment with Dr. Matthew Paradise. She later saw him and they took about her childhood. Chrystal didn’t have many friends growing up. She was good at school in spite of not pursuing it too much. Chrystal also hadn’t wanted to mention the betrayal she had with her mother or the family member that molested her because she hadn’t wanted that to affect her brother.

Her brother knew she had been sexual. He just didn’t know by who or what happened once she told someone about it. So, the doctor told her that she had to come clean with her brother. They had a joint session with Josh and she used that moment to tell him it was his father that molested her. Her stepfather raped her. She told her mom and the mom chose to stay.

Chrystal was the one that had to leave. She left to move in with her grandmother and no one explained why to Josh. He was only now just learning the truth. Josh wasn’t upset when she told him. He sorta took it in his stride like he may have suspected his father did something and this simply confirmed it. Josh was still supportive of his sister. He was still there for her and really that’s all that matters.

Chrystal has all the support she needs. She did her best to stick to the diet that Dr. Now had laid out and she began exercising. It was still hard for her to stand for long. She often has to lean on items as she does her walks and it helps when she takes a break every now and then. Chrystal’s second appointment with Dr. Now ended up doing a little better. She lost nine pounds and that was an improvement.

Not a large improvement, but an improvement. She was also taking showers every day and that too was a step in the right healthy direction. Chrystal merely needs to increase what she’s doing. She needs to stick to the liquid diet. She needs to go for long walks and most importantly she couldn’t get sick. Her body wouldn’t able to handle any sickness at the moment.

Chrystal was also going through a move because her family has been staying in a hotel room this whole time and they couldn’t continue like that. They moved into an apartment. The apartment all gave them breathing room and so now her girls can go to their room and they can relax. Chrystal was still on the big side. She had to sleep in the living room and that’s okay because it made space for Josh.

Josh decided to move down there full-time. He wants to be around in case his sister needs him and so Chrystal has plenty of support. She just wasn’t sticking close to her weight-loss plan. Her third visit to Dr. Now went better as in she lost over thirty pounds and overall weight loss was that of forty-seven pounds. But she shouldn’t have lost a hundred pounds in that same time frame. Her doctor was so concerned about her that Dr. Now questioned if it would be better if they put her in the hospital. That way, they could monitor her diet. They also could learn where she was going wrong because she was doing something wrong if the diet alone wasn’t working and a hospital visit is not something Chrystal wants.

Chrystal put up a chore chart. She also made a “No Excuses” policy and that seems to have done the job because her fourth appointment was her best to date. She lost sixty-six pounds. She was below five hundred for the first time in years and so she was finally doing what she was supposed to do.

Her doctor was so pleased that he dropped the hospital idea. He also told her that she’s approved for surgery and that was great news. Her next goal now is to get off the oxygen. She still needed to lose more weight because she wasn’t at her goal weight just yet and Dr. Now was going to work with her, but she still has a long road ahead of her and hopefully, it’ll get better as she goes on.

Chrystal later went to the park with her kids and that was the first time she’s done that in a long time.

THE END!
