In tonight’s New Amsterdam episode, Floyd gets a call from his mother, he tells her do not move he is coming. His mother is brought into the hospital by ambulance, he found her on the floor bleeding from her head and wants to see if she is ok. Max is there, he tells Floyd they are going to run all the tests, they are there for her. Iggy sees Max in the hall and says that he wants to bring his patients back in, it is too hard to treat them on video. Max says no way, it is too early yet for in-person meetings.

Helen has a patient come into emergency who she hasn’t seen in a long time and who fought cancer for three years. Helen tells her that she has to take some tests.

Iggy is on video with June, he tells her this is not ideal but he would love if they both could give it their best shot. Iggy starts losing the connection. She says all her friends are out again but she is not allowed because she is immune-compromised. Her parents won’t even let her out on the stoop. She says she felt normal at the beginning of COVID because everyone was home too, so she felt normal for a while.

Dora is in the hospital, Max calls her the conquering traitor that returns. She tells him that the public is weary to come back to the hospital. HCC is funding a program for patients to return to New Amsterdam. Max says he doesn’t want them because they are not vaccinated. She tells him that if he doesn’t do something he is going to go down as the person who lost the state’s first public hospital.

Max is recording a segment; Dora is there, and he is not doing that well. Dora is frustrated, Max keeps diverting and says he sounds like a liar.

Iggy speaks to June’s parents; her fingers were all bloody when he had his video chat with her. Iggy wants her in the hospital, her parents won’t allow it. He says that their daughter is on the brink of serious clinical depression. Her mother says she is not dead and that is what makes them sleep at night, they will not allow it.

Floyd’s mother has no injuries from her fall, but Max tells Floyd that she has diabetes and he thinks neuropathy from diabetes caused her fall. The good news, now they can treat it.

Helen’s patient Milly who is getting an MRI is chatting about life during COVID. Helen tells her cancer metastasized and there is nothing they can do.

In Emergency, another patient is having trouble breathing when the only person around is her ride driver who calls out for help and nobody comes. Afraid the woman is going to die, the driver grabs a syringe and stabs it in her chest, then she starts to breathe.

Max speaks to Floyd’s mother, she tells her it is good news, now she can be treated. She tries to give herself the insulin with Max’s help, but she can’t. Floyd knows that she needs full-time care.

Iggy is sitting down to have his lunch, he gets a call, it is June’s mom, she is missing.

Dora is still in the hospital, she tells him that he isn’t doing the PSA, she is doing it. Max goes to see Helen and tells her that she is putting the hospital’s name on a dangerous lie. She tells him that Milly came in, she might have a week to live and she got to tell her that her kids are not going to have a mother. She missed six vital chemo treatments because she was too afraid to come into the hospital because of COVID. If she had come in a month ago, it may have saved her life. He says he won’t even bring his own daughter to the hospital, how can he ask anyone else to be there.

Millie is already on life support, she had a massive bleed, her husband and son are in the room. Helen tells them that she is kept alive by the machine, her brain has stopped functioning and there is nothing more they can do.

Iggy finds June, she is sitting down by the water near a Ferris wheel, he figured it out because she would use a photo of the Ferris wheel as her virtual background. He tells her to put her mask on.

Floyd tells his sister back to San Francisco, she says no way. Their mother comes out of the room and says she is not dead, so stop talking like she is.

Helen tries to do the PSA, but she can’t say they are confident that people will be ok if they come into the hospital. She shouts that they can’t tell her to say she is confident when everyone is afraid. She wants to tell people the truth, they may not get rid of this virus and they need to learn how to live with it.

Floyd tells his mom that he will visit as much as he can, but she will stay put. Helen’s PSA of when she had the meltdown was released and already has over three million views. Dora tells Helen and Max that they were right, people needed to be told the truth. June’s parents arrive with her, he has put her in touch with other young people who are immune-compromised and have to stay at home like her.

Lauren finds the driver who saved her patient, she finds out that she lives in her car and offers to let her come into the hospital to have a shower. Lauren thanks her for saving her patient, the driver says she studied medicine in Pakistan.

Iggy joins an eating disorder group. Evie tells Floyd that she knows this is his home and he should stay, she is sorry that she made him leave. Evie goes back to San Francisco without him and returns the ring he gave her. Max makes a call, he wants his daughter back.
