In tonight’s S.W.A.T. episode, Officer Rodrigo Sanchez became the new 20-David. He was leading the SWAT team now that Hondo has been demoted and Deacon rejected Hondo’s old job. But both Deacon and Hondo knew Sanchez. He was on the original team back in the day with Luca and so they knew Sanchez was good people. He had heard about the job opening. He figured if any prick was going to go after the job then why shouldn’t he and he got it.

Sanchez is now leading the guys. He spoke with the new members. The ones that didn’t work with him from before and he told them that he expects good things from them. The team was given their first true test when they were called out to a shootout. The shootout happened after a break in at a factory and most of the bad guys got away while they left one guy behind.

It’s the one guy that SWAT was called in to collect. They moved on the building with Hondo saying his catchphrase of “Stay Liquid” and so Hondo hasn’t fully given up the role of leader. He’s been doing that job for a while and it was going to take him some additional time before he stops seeing himself as the leader. It also came down to pride. Hondo was used to make the big calls and winning praise and now Sanchez was filing that role.

Sanchez even caught their suspect. They brough in Dale. Dale was interrogated and he admitted that he had been paid to shut down the computer system at the warehouse. He didn’t know what was stolen or who the other members of the team were. He just knew his point person. Dale said a woman hired him to do the job and that they left him there when they got what they wanted.

The people who own the warehouse was brought in. They said there wasn’t anything worth stealing at the company besides copper wiring and that the only thing they noticed missing was drawings. The owner’s grandfather was an architect. He built at least twenty buildings downtown and so Hicks suspected the break-in had been to steal the blueprints because a bigger crime was underway. As they were investigating why the bad guys needed the blue prints, Luca confronted Sanchez. Luca used to work with Sanchez like the other guys. He knows him. he also knows that coming back to SWAT was a step down for Sanchez and he wouldn’t have done that if there hadn’t been something in it for him. And so Luca asked him what it was because he knew Sanchez wasn’t back because of sentiment.

And he wasn’t. Sanchez was quick to assert himself and he wanted everyone to know he was the leader. He made calls against the advice of his team. His calls worked out in spite of what Hondo thought it would happen and so again it came to pride. Hondo’s pride was stung that he had been demoted. It also annoyed him that he now has someone over him telling him what he can and can’t do. Hondo tried to move past it. Only Luca wouldn’t let him. Luca spoke with both Hondo and Deac. They spoke about Sanchez. Luca still thinks Sanchez is up to something and that the others couldn’t see it. They reminded Luca that he always had an issue with Sanchez. The two of them used to butt heads frequently during their time together back in the day and so Luca suspecting Sanchez now is nothing new.

If anything, the others dismissed it as clashing personalities. They said that just how things are and they moved on. They had bigger issues to worry about. They still had their case. They found the woman who hired the hacker and her name is Pippa. Pippa has been in frequent contact with someone in prison. She apparently fell in love. She let the guy convince her to rob a place and she was later arrested. Pippa was asked about the grand plan.

She didn’t know it. Her boyfriend left her out of it and so the team had to track it down. They tracked down each and every building the architect grandfather worked on until they found a building where everyone inside was unresponsive. The team went there. They found everyone knocked out by gas pumped through the air system. They also found the place being robbed.

The team pursued their thieves. They chased down into the tunnels where they got one and the other escaped. But he didn’t escape for long. He managed to make it all the way to getaway car where the team trapped him in at all sides. And so the team was able to arrest everyone and recover the stolen items.

Later, Sanchez gave a speech about how he had been sent there to see why 20 squad imploded. Someone died, a cop recorded others cops, and Hondo released information to the Times. Sanchez had been sent there to get the team back in shape and tonight he said that he didn’t have because they were doing great work.

THE END!
