In tonight’s Snowpiercer finale, Wilford asked Ruth to tell everyone they couldn’t go back for Melanie. She couldn’t do that and so he had her stripped of her teals. She was thrown out of hospitality. She was forced to live in Compost with Layton and Kevin took her former position. Kevin is a toad.

He was always going to put himself first and that’s what he did with Ruth. He didn’t defend her. He watched her being escorted out and he said nothing in her defense. Ruth was the one who kept everything running. Ruth was the one telling people that Wilford’s time will come and now she’s gone. She’s in Compost. Zarah is worried about her baby. Wilford turned Bess into his moral advisor and the reality of that position is that she now gets to watch as he and maims people.

But hopes remain. Javier was driving the train when Melanie made contact and so he snuck a message into Compost. He knew that Layton and Ruth would find it. He also knew it would give them hope. Which it did. Layton and Ruth were so inspired by the news that Melanie is still alive that they hatched a plan and they proved willing to bet everything on it.

This included their lives. They tricked their jailer into putting his hands into the slot for food and then they used the chance to knock him out. Ruth and Layton got the keys to their cell from their jailer. They made it to the engines where they ran into Alex. She had been trapped there and so she told the duo what they needed to do to get to Big Alice.

It seems their plan was to use Big Alice to pick up Melanie. They could reach that from a hidden compartment in Wilford’s suite and Alex wasn’t going with them. Alex said she could do more by running interference with Wilford. Wilford approached her about kissing his ring and denouncing her allies.

He also wanted her to go on record that Melanie is dead. Alex pretended she was willing to do anything to get back into his good graces and she was a little much. She even apologized to LJ. Everyone and their mother knew she hates LJ. No one was really buying it and Bess was pretending to buy it just so that it would confuse Wilford. Bess figured out what was going on the moment Alex opened her mouth to apologize.

Bess snuck off. She went to Zarah’s rooms where she ran into Audrey and so she took the chance to knock the other woman out. Audrey was only ever on her own side anyways. Bess got her out of the way and that’s when she told Zarah that Layton was coming. Layton and Ruth were leading a coup.

They gathered some men. They were telling everyone to go to the carnival because that way they could get their message out once Melanie was onboard. There was just one problem with their plan. The train had to go on a test track to reach Melanie and the test track wasn’t smooth. Wilford noticed the bumps. He gathered his men and he went after Javier in Big Alice. Wilford was so upset that he later killed Javier for the betrayal.

Wilford was down an engineer. He tried driving Big Alice himself and he was overheating the engines. He also wasn’t slowing down. Melanie missed the train and Wilford was going to throw Alex out trackside as well, but she managed to stab him in his neck and his men were so worried for him that they brought him to the doctors. Alex meanwhile ran off. She went into hiding and she ran into Layton. She told him about a last-ditch plan to go back for Melanie.

She said they could do it if they decoupled the trains and that they could rejoin everyone at a later date. It was a wild plan. Everyone had to be in the area past the aquarium and, if not, they get left behind. Ruth didn’t make it to the access point. She got held back by the idiot Kevin.

Zarah also didn’t go with her friends. She said her baby protects her and that she knew how to survive under Wilford. Wilford had tried to weaponize Josie. He sent her after Ben and she instead helped Ben to decouple the two cars. Layton and his friends also grabbed Audrey. She was an insurance policy and Layton said he’d keep her alive if nothing happened to his friends while he was gone. Boki also hadn’t made the trip. He was found by Wilford’s men and there’s no telling what happened to him.

Layton, Alex, Bess, Ben, and even Josie took a huge risk in going back for Melanie. They went back for their friend and they couldn’t find her. They just found her data. Melanie gave up her life so that she could preserve her data and now everyone knows that there are warm places still left in the world. And that there was hope.

THE END!
