The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) will struggle to cope with Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) condition and the guilt of feeling like he caused it. However, we have to wonder if something might be a bit fishy about this storyline.
Chelsea had a stroke following her ruptured brain aneurysm, so she can’t speak and can barely move. Will Y&R really take the time to play out a lengthy story where Chelsea slowly recovers? That could take years if portrayed realistically!
Of course, it’s possible The Young and the Restless will just rush things along since it’s a soap and nobody’s holding them to strict medical standards. Nevertheless, we should at least consider the possibility that there’s something deeper going on here.
Is there a chance that Chelsea’s running a scam? Just hear us out! Chelsea definitely had a brain aneurysm that burst. There’s no doubt about that since we saw Chelsea struggling in private. What’s not set in stone is Chelsea’s current condition. What if Chelsea isn’t in as bad shape as she’s letting on?
Let’s consider the evidence. For starters, Adam recently brought up Victor Newman’s FAKED death scheme, which came about after he switched his dad’s pills. It’s possible Y&R chose to include that as a hint that Chelsea’s condition is fake, too.
Clue number two is simple: Chelsea is a con artist! This would naturally look quite real – just as it did when Victor keeled over and “died” to fool Adam. Chelsea is a pro at duping people and might’ve dipped into her old bag of tricks.
Summer Newman (Hunter King) has been throwing the words “con artist” around lately to refer to Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). We know Summer’s about to score some dirt on Sally in LA.
Summer will inevitably hear about how Sally FAKED a terminal illness as part of a scheme to win back her ex, Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks).
It’s possible Y&R writers chose to borrow from Sally’s playbook after researching her Bold and the Beautiful history. They might’ve chosen to do a similar story by having Chelsea fake her immobility and inability to speak. Again, Chelsea is a con artist and could easily pull that off.
That brings us to another clue from November sweeps spoilers that didn’t really play out. Sometimes things are spoiled ahead of time in those previews and don’t air until much later. The Young and the Restless spoilers said that Chelsea would have a major secret she kept from everyone in her life.
Chelsea very briefly hid her brain aneurysm diagnosis from Adam, but it was like a one-episode thing. It hardly qualified as keeping a major secret from everyone in her life.
Once Adam found out about that diagnosis, Chelsea admitted to needing a medical procedure when she ran into Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). She didn’t go into details, but she wasn’t keeping it a full-blown secret either.
Even Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) knew Chelsea was set to have a procedure – and Chelsea was under the impression that her brain aneurysm could wait to be treated. It wasn’t supposed to be as serious as it turned out to be, so that wasn’t really a major secret.
What if that spoiler was delayed and the major secret is a stroke aftermath scam? It’s a possibility to consider. Now you might be wondering why Chelsea would do something like this. The answer is simple: to make Adam prove his love for her.
Chelsea was kidnapped, held hostage and drugged because of Adam – the same Adam who insisted he was destined to end up with Sharon in a conversation with Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso)! As a result, Chelsea may have decided to put Adam’s love to the test.
Once Chelsea woke up following her surgery for her brain aneurysm, she might’ve decided to see where Adam’s heart truly lies. If Adam could see Chelsea through this crisis without betraying her with Sharon, Chelsea might believe Adam was 100-percent committed to her.
Who hired Chelsea’s team of specialists, including Dr. Lena Cavett (Dana Sparks)? Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Who’s benefiting from Chelsea’s current situation? Victor again!
Adam has finally called a truce with his father and is relying on Victor for help. This ordeal is mending Adam and Victor’s broken bond, but what if this is something Chelsea and Victor cooked up together?
If Victor would fake his death, then he could help Chelsea fake the stroke aftermath, too. Victor would do anything to have his son back – even something like this.
Connor is being shielded from the drama, so it’s not like Chelsea’s hurting her son. If Adam stays loyal, then Chelsea can stick with him and know for sure he’s the one. If Adam lands in Sharon’s bed…well, that’ll tell Chelsea everything she needs to know about Adam’s true loyalty!
To recap, Chelsea might’ve opted to take her medical crisis further than it actually went. Perhaps the con artist is secretly doing well following her surgery and is merely putting Adam to the test. If so, will Adam fail that test miserably?
