So, her winning the 2021 Daytime Emmy Award, in the Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category, was certainly right.

Cheers in the millions to Adams, whose exceptional efforts revived a dormant character in 2017. The Alzheimer’s storyline was part of an exceptional arc that ended last year. The conclusion to the actor’s time on Y&R, that began in 1984, proved to be both memorable and important.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – A Wife And Mother To Be Sure

Dina’s backstory was known by longtime fans. Her abandonment of the Abbott family was revisited during this stint.

Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) all came to terms with the damage their mother caused in their lives and for their father’s heart having been broken.

It was an interesting balance that the writing staff struck. It was both truthful and accurate to not eliminate the self-involved choices Adams’ character made back in the so-called day being the reason why she was able to become Madame Mergeron, while also developing Dina’s current life through toward a loving conclusion.

It’s not that Dina didn’t care about her children. She admitted to not possessing the capacity to endure the life that so many sacrificing mothers make for their families.

Dina’s true contrition and desire to seek forgiveness also included something else that is important. Dina was seeking redemption, which meant that her loved ones had to accept her apology and then honestly allow her to be a part of their current lives.

One of Y&R’s brilliant strategies had Dina becoming both a redemptive character, but also a sympathetic one. That’s where the Alzheimer’s aspect became a glorious path that was both informative and important.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – All Hail Marla Adams!

John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) stayed with his family. Imagine if he made the same choice as Dina or did so after she left? That question among others haunted Adams’ alter ego until she returned to Genoa City, Wisconsin.

The fully beautiful ending scenes that Adams delivered included Dina speaking directly to her family and then passing on. She was escorted by John to heaven, where both people surely belong.

The greatness of daytime is that it allows tremendous actors like Adams to be seen in long-form tales. The final chapter in Dina’s story resulted in this actor’s second Emmy nomination and her earned statue. All hail to Marla Adams!
