The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Wednesday, December 22, reveals that Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) will give Dominic Newman-Abbott-Chancellor a music box that was meant for his own child, so Abby Newman-Abbot-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) will be stunned. Here’s what Y&R fans will see in Wednesday’s surprise-filled episode.
At Society, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) will find Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), who’ll be glum over sending her gifts too late to make it by Christmas.
Phyllis will talk about how much she misses her kids before Jack wonders if she misses Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), too.
Phyllis will admit she does miss Nick in some ways, but she’ll feel like the breakup definitely needed to happen.
Phyllis won’t want to wallow any longer, so Jack will convince her to join him at the Chancellor mansion and visit Dominic Newman-Abbott-Chancellor since he makes everything better.
At home, Abby will talk to Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) about how all their dreams came true. She’ll assure Chance that she wants to focus on the family they have now, not the pain of the past.
Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) will bring some gifts just before Chance dashes upstairs to crying Dominic.
That’ll give Traci a chance to quiz Abby about how things are really going. Abby will admit it’s a process, but she’ll seem optimistic and will want everything to be perfect.
Traci will urge Abby not to put too much pressure on herself, but Abby will act like everything’s under control before they head into the kitchen to plan the holiday menu.
When Chance comes back down with Dominic, he’ll read him a Christmas card that Kim Dunaway (Roxanne Hart) sent about focusing on the brighter days ahead.
Chance will sigh as he continues to struggle with what he’s been through. He’ll fret over his deceased team members and how they’ll never spend a holiday with their own kids.
At Crimson Lights, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) will catch each other after secret shopping trips.
They’ll make a deal about not peeking before talk turns to gifts for Dominic and how cute all the baby stuff is.
Mariah will think Tessa seems ready to have a discussion about their own baby, but she’ll stop herself and tell Tessa to forget she said anything.
Mariah will opt to concentrate on Christmas and all the stockings they have to fill instead.
Later, Mariah and Tessa will drop by the Chancellor mansion. After Mariah shares a sweet moment with Dominic, Tessa will smile and suggest it’s her turn.
Once Tessa leaves with Mariah, she’ll end up at Society with her. That’s when Tessa will ask Mariah if her heart’s set on a biological child or if she’d consider adopting.
A stunned Mariah will be amazed that they’re even having this conversation and will wonder what changed.
Tessa will admit that Mariah truly seems to have made peace with the Dominic situation. She’ll be convinced this isn’t just about replacing “Bowie” and will truly want to start a family with Mariah.
Tessa will also admit that part of her hesitance before was about her rough childhood. That’s why Tessa will like the idea of adopting a kid and breaking the cycle by giving him or her a stable home.
Mariah and Tessa will agree that no matter how they choose to bring a child into their lives, they’ll give that child love.
At their penthouse, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) will sense that Devon still misses Dominic. She’ll ask if Devon has given any more thought to asking for one-on-one time.
Amanda will point out that maybe Abby and Chance would let Dominic stay with Devon for visits, but he’ll be wary of interfering in Chance and Dominic’s opportunity to bond.
Devon will think it’s best to hold off on asking for extra time with Dominic, so Amanda will respect his wishes.
Back at the Chancellor mansion, Abby will seem a little weirded out when Phyllis shows up with Jack.
Once Traci corners Phyllis alone, Phyllis will insist Jack’s sister doesn’t need to worry since nothing romantic is happening.
Traci will wonder if that’s because Jack won’t go there or perhaps because Phyllis won’t, but Phyllis will opt to keep everyone guessing for the fun of it.
Phyllis will also give Abby some motherly advice about being her authentic self when it comes to raising Dominic.
Next, Jack will sense that Chance is struggling over the guilt of missing Dominic’s first months.
Jack will give Chance a pep talk about letting go of the guilt and appreciating how lucky he is to be home with his family.
Afterward, Jack will take Phyllis back to The Grand Phoenix. He’ll invite Phyllis to have Christmas Eve dinner with the Abbotts, but she’ll worry that’ll be a holiday disaster.
Phyllis won’t want to blow up her friendship with Jack, but he’ll insist she should come have Christmas Eve dinner with all the trimmings.
At the Chancellor mansion again, Devon and Amanda will pop in for a visit of their own. After getting permission to give Dominic his gift early, Devon will pull out a music box.
Devon will explain that Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) bought it for the baby Devon was supposed to have with Hilary Hamilton (Mishael Morgan).
Abby will fear it’s too special to accept, but Devon will argue that’s exactly why he wants Dominic to have it – especially since the music box plays a song that the baby likes.
Amanda will urge Devon to play it, so Dominic will stop fussing as he listens. Chance will stand nearby looking pensive as he takes in the scene.
After Devon and Amanda leave, Chance will take a video call from Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) before telling Abby he has some last-minute wrapping to do.
Chance will refuse to tell Abby what her surprise gift is, so she’ll have to wait until Christmas morning to find out.
As Dominic sleeps in Abby’s arms, she’ll play the music box and talk about a guardian angel watching over them.
Music will play while Mariah shares a warm moment with Tessa and while Devon opens a gift at the penthouse, which will be Dominic’s framed footprints.
Back with Abby, she’ll touch the elephant ornament Chance got her for Christmas last year. As Abby continues to hold a sleeping Dominic, Chance will watch them from the staircase.
The Young and the Restless spoilers say Chance will keep fighting for a better future, but there’ll be more hurdles along the way.
