Maddie and her family arrived back in LA. But they weren’t together. Maddie and Chimney broke up during their travels back. They’ve grown into different people while they were apart and they both realized it was better to be friends. It was better for their daughter. Little Jee didn’t need them to try and force a romantic relationship to work. They all came back to LA together and then they parted ways. They also explained things to their loved ones. Buck had been upset by the breakup at first. He was ready to argue with Chimney about it because he didn’t think his sister should be blamed for being sick and so Maddie had to explain to him that that’s not what was happening. They broke up because they never took the time to work on a relationship.

Maddie and Chimney became friends. Then they got attacked by an abusive ex-husband. They had to recover from that and they sorta fell into a relationship where they got pregnant fairly fast. Everything since then has been about making it work. But they couldn’t. They just couldn’t. It was never simple or easy. It was never the two of them and that’s why their relationship didn’t work. Buck understood things after his sister explained them. He was glad to have his family back in town. Maddie was glad to be back. Chimney even though he could fall back into his old job and that’s when he learned that his job was no longer there.

Bobby replaced him. The captain had to because he never got a definitive date on when Chimney was coming back and he couldn’t operate a team with a revolving door of temps. He had needed to make a decision. He replaced Chimney. He also replaced Eddie. Eddie leaving was another shock to Chimney. He didn’t know that Eddie left. Eddie took a safer job at dispatch. Only, Eddie tried to come back. It was Bobby who shut it down. Bobby remembered that Eddie left because he was struggling mentally to handle the job and he wasn’t going to let Eddie back until Eddie did the necessary work on himself.

Which Eddie was trying to do. Eddie was seeing a therapist. He was talking through his issues and his main problem seems to believe that if he doesn’t want to face his problems heads on. He wants to put them in a box. To never deal with them, ever. He was a lot like Buck in that sense and Buck was trying to change himself. Buck spoke to Maddie about kissing Lucy. He realized he made a mistake. He tried to correct it. He later told Taylor that he kissed Lucy. Technically, she kissed him and he kissed her back but it wasn’t good. Not for Taylor. Taylor asked when this happened and that’s when she learned her boyfriend only asked her to move in because he was scared.

Scared of telling her about the kiss. Scared about losing her. He asked her to move in for all the wrong reasons and now she couldn’t even go back to her own apartment because she had already given it up. Taylor was very much upset. She walked off and Buck had no idea where to. Buck later went to work and the team faced a tough case. They got called to a house sitter/animal sitter’s emergency. The guy was watching spiders. He didn’t mind it. He got to stay in a nice house and he was going to earn eight grand for just seven days’ work. He was feeling good until one of the spiders made its way into his bed.

The spider bit him several times. It also encased him in its web and so it’s a good thing the homeowner called 911. He originally called because he noticed his animals hadn’t been fed. The dispatcher who turned out to be Mae had said that wasn’t an emergency. She told him he should have gotten a sitter and that’s when he did but that he hadn’t heard from the guy in two days. Mae, therefore, sent the police to do a wellness check on the sitter. This was how the poor guy was found. He almost died because the homeowner had “lost” one of his spiders a while back and he hadn’t told the sitter. And so the firefighters left that wandering spider to animal control.

They also got a call from a scuba diver who came up too fast because he panicked. He suffered from decompression as well as a collapsed lung. They rushed him to the hospital and his condition was up to the doctors. But the firefighters once again assisted the cops when they got called about a woman whose voice had changed. She also was no longer experiencing fear. She attacked the mugger who demanded her purse at a gas station. She almost killed the guy and herself by pouring gasoline all over them both. The gas attendant was able to talk her down. Pauline realized that she was about to die and she apologized before driving off.

Athena went looking for Pauline. She found out that Pauline’s fear went away around the same time her voice changed and that’s when she called for the firefighters. They later located Pauline. They came in to stop her from throwing herself off a ledge. And Buck later returned home to find Taylor there.

Taylor wasn’t upset about the kiss. She was upset that Buck asked her to move in and then told her. It was like he was setting a trap so that she couldn’t leave him. Taylor knows Buck well enough to know that he struggles with abandonment. But she loves him. She’s willing to forgive him this time as long as he never does it again. Buck later got a call from Eddie’s son Chris. Chris was in a panic because he was hearing shouting in his father’s room. And so Buck rushed over to find Eddie destroying his own bedroom.

Eddie was asked to reach out to the men and women he served with as part of his therapy. Only, he tried contacting them and they all died. He was the last one standing.
