In tonight’s FBI International episode, a river cruise was attacked. It happened as the ship was sailing into Vienna. The men with guns boarded the ship and took all that they could. They also shot several people. They even shot a child. Forrester and his team were called in because the cruise was technically an American ship and it also crossed country borders. Forrester had already skipped out on his museum plans with his tutor.

He was, therefore, free and this case came at the right time. Vo couldn’t join them. She had to return to the States to testify in a trial that got pushed back and so it left just the three agents to travel to Vienna with Jaeger. And what soon learned early on is that the gunmen were looking for something on the ship.

The gunmen hadn’t taken the guests’ wallets or jewelry. They instead went to staff lockers and raided them. Whatever they might have found or might not be unknown. The gunmen had gotten spooked. They fired at someone who fought back and they sprayed the whole ship with the bullets.

It’s how they ended up shooting the child. Poor baby girl. She was on the cruise because she wanted to see the castles on the river and she probably got that idea from Disney. The girl was in the hospital because the bullets perforated some of her organs. She was getting treatment as Kellet was interviewing her parents.

They repeated what everyone else said. The gunmen weren’t interested in robbing them. The bullets also didn’t fly until that one man tried to fight back and so odds are it was never in the gunmen’s plans to shoot anyone. They just did so because they panicked. Also, their panicking shows they weren’t pros.

Pros would have better kept it together. The team believes some dissatisfied staff might have been involved because the cruise belonged to a company whose CEO was cutting down salaries and firing people. The company suffered during the pandemic. It hasn’t gotten back on its feet just yet and that could be why someone on staff has turned to drug dealing.

The ship was searched in the aftermath. The team later found twenty kilos of heroin onboard. Someone on staff must have smuggled it on to assist the Balkan cartel and somehow that information got out. It’s why that guy fought back. He wasn’t some innocent victim. He was a member of the Balkan cartel.

He was there to protect the shipment of drugs. To make sure it got to Vienna safely. The gunmen didn’t find the drugs onboard like they thought they would and so that’s when they panicked. But the question left was who would be dumb enough to steal from the Balkan cartel?

The team didn’t know the answer to that question. They chose to look for who was helping the cartel on the ship because that person might have tipped off the gunmen and it turns out the ship’s captain had a half-brother that should never have gotten a job on the ship. Sebastian Klein had a record. If the company hadn’t short-changed on background checks, Sebastian would never have gotten hired. Sebastian also speaks German and the gunmen had been overheard speaking German to each other. The team looked into it. They went digging into Sebastian’s life and it turns out Sebastian had incurred a debt with some Germans.

The Germans wanted their money back. They threatened to beat him up unless they got their money and so in a state of panic Sebastian told them he was carrying drugs for the cartel onboard the ship. He offered to do the same for them. But they still beat him up. They then tried to steal the shipment on board only they couldn’t find it. Sebastian had told them it was hidden in the lockers. It was actually hidden in the kitchen. Sebastian had been smart enough to lie about that and he’s been in hiding ever since. He was probably afraid of what the cartel would do to him once they found out he was the leak.

Sebastian later reached out to his brother. His brother was still in custody at the time and so they made Baur agree to meet up. They got him to agree to a place they wanted him to. They then followed him there, but something happened. Baur and Sebastian got into a fight. A gun became involved. Baur shot his brother. The FBI came in after they heard the shots and they found Baur with a gun in his hand. He claimed that Sebastian pulled a gun on him with no provocation. He was sticking to that story and still, no one believed him. It just didn’t make sense to the FBI. They had audio of the apartment where the men met up. They played it and it revealed Sebastian’s last words were “why”.

Sebastian wouldn’t have asked that if he just tried to kill Baur. Baur was clearly lying. He was lying about everything. He must have known about the drugs and he was worried his screw-up of a brother was going to reveal everything. So, he killed him. He turned on his family. Forrester got Baur to admit as much. Baur revealed to all the players what happened. The Austrians got to make their arrests and Forrester realized he made a mistake somewhere along the way. Forrester had found out his tutor Sara had been onboard the ship. He was worried she was a part of the smuggling ring and so he accused her without evidence, but she was clean. She had nothing to do with the smuggling ring. Forrester only got to that conclusion because everyone betrayed him at one point in time.

And after everything, Forrester went back to Sara’s apartment. He apologized for what he said and she wasn’t willing to take him back. She said she needed someone stable. And in his grief, he reached out to Kellet.

THE END!
