Tonight’s Fear The Walking Dead episode begins with Howard and Ali who says he is ready to be a ranger. Howard says he admits his ambition, but everyone has to start somewhere. He wants him to capture the Mourning Cloak butterfly, to show his dedication. Ali says it doesn’t make sense, what does this have to do with being a ranger. Howard says it is about how he sees the world, the butterflies start as caterpillars – he needs to show Victor that he is ready to be something greater.

Ali is out looking for the butterfly, he finds what he is looking for, but also a walker. He captures the butterfly and kills the walker with his other hand. Ali then comes across Charlie and points his gun at her. A walker distracts him and Charlie goes for his gun, but it doesn’t work.

He orders her to take her mask off. John rides up with some men and Howard, he says Charlie is one of Morgan’s group. They bring Charlie to the tower to ask her questions, she says she was looking for a way into the place, she wants to live there, she wants a chance at a normal life. She says she will be thirteen and she doesn’t want to fight anymore, she wants a normal life. She offers to do whatever she has to so they trust her and let her stay. Ali walks Charlie around the place.

Howard says the elevators don’t work, Charlie offers to get the parts for them. June is there and she says it is too risky. Charlie agrees to do it, but when it is done, she says she is going to live in the tower. Howard tells Ali to go with her and find out why she is really there.

The next day, Ali and Charlie head out on a horse. Ali sees stalkers, he goes the other way and holds up in a bowling alley building for a while, she begs him to show her how to bowl and he does one roll with her.

Later, they head out and find the building where the elevator parts are kept. Charlie puts on a gas mask and goes inside. Meanwhile, the stalkers catch Ali outside. They ask why Charlie went inside and when he won’t answer, they say they are going in and taking Ali at gunpoint. They order him to open the door, he does and walkers come flooding out while he hinds behind a door to save himself. The stalkers are taken care of by the walkers and Ali gets a hold of a gun.

Ali shoots a couple of walkers and when one comes at him, he has no more bullets, but Charlie comes to the rescue and kills the walkers. Charlie forces open an elevator and Ali tells her to be quick because there are more walkers trying to get through a door leading to the room that they are in. Charlie tells him that she saw what he did to the stalkers. She tells him the truth about why she came to the tower, Morgan sent her to the tower to turn off the beacon so they can clear the walkers, and he can rescue Grace and Mo.

The walkers are breaking through the door, Ali pushes Charlie inside the elevator, closes the doors, and leaves her. Charlie is shouting, she is begging Ali to save her. Ali has a change of heart, he kills the walkers and rescues Charlie. He tells her she doesn’t have to run away alone, he takes her hand. Ali leans in and kisses her. Charlie passes out due to radiation exposure.

Back at the tower, Charlie is attended to by June who says she is stable, but given the amount of exposure she had, she should make the most of every day. Howard sits down with Ali, he tells him that Victor will be back tomorrow. He asks him why Charlie is there, what did Morgan ask her to do, and he says she told the truth. Howard says he is sending her out tomorrow. Howard wants to know why he brought her back there. Howard tells him that it is safe to say when Victor comes back he will make him a ranger.

Ali goes to visit Charlie, she is laying in bed. He sits beside her and holds her close. She tells him that she is scared, really scared. Ali asks her to go somewhere will him, he takes her inside the room with the butterflies and tells her happy birthday. They sit down face to face and bond. He tells her that he is going to be there for her. Ali’s thoughts of being a ranger are replaced with falling in love with Charlie.

Ali goes to turn off the beacon for Charlie and gets caught by Howard. They fight and Howard gets him in a headlock, he says he is sorry and throws Ali from the top of the building. Charlie sees him fall and starts crying. She goes to tell June, and Howard comes in. Charlie tells him he is a monster, and Howard and John say they are just protecting the tower. June tells John that his son would be ashamed of him.

Victor goes to kill Charlie and June says no way, she is under her protection. Howard says fine, but she better tread carefully. When Howard walks away, June asks John what was that about, he says he had to, he had no choice. And the only way for things to change is if he gets in Strand’s ear. June takes the blame for what happened to Charlie, she says she shouldn’t have let her go to that building. She makes a promise to Charlie that she will do everything she can to see Strand go down.

THE END!
