In tonight’s Fire Country Vince questioned Jake about Riley. The father had recently learned that his daughter was in a relationship with Jake and that Jake had broken her heart before she died. Vince felt he should have been told about this from Jake. Not from Bode.

Vince has always blamed Bode for Riley’s death. He now realized it was more nuanced. He realized that Riley’s last movements wouldn’t have been so painful for her if Jake hadn’t hurt her. Jake cheated on Riley before she died. She found out about it and that’s why she was acting erratically in the car with her brother. She tried to open her door while he was driving. He tried to grab her. He lost control of the wheel and that’s how Riley died. She died because Jake broke her heart.

What makes it worse was the fact that Jake never owned up to what he did. He never told his best friend or even Riley’s parents what he did. Bode had to tell them. Bode told everyone what Jake did and Jake was now struggling with regaining everyone’s trust. Jake had only told the truth to one person.

He told his current girlfriend Gabriella about what happened with Riley. He’s been completely open with Gabriella. She trusts him to tell her everything and he’s never disappointed her in that regard. It was everyone else he disappointed. Vince for one had confronted Jake about Riley.

They were boxing each other when Vince mentioned Bode told him the truth. Vince also had asked Jake why hadn’t he mentioned what happened before Bode told him. Vince has always looked at Jake as a foster son and so hearing Jake had betrayed his trust was very disheartening.

Vince went on a cleaning spree just so that he wouldn’t think about his daughter’s last moments on earth. Vince’s wife found him during his cleaning spree. Sharon was told the truth. She chose not to be upset about it. Sharon still sees Jake as a member of her family. She understood why he hid what happened. She told her husband that she loves Jake and that the truth about Riley didn’t change that.

Sharon was willing to forgive. Vince and Bode weren’t of that mindset. Bode still blamed Jake for his sister’s sad end and, while he may have recently saved Jake’s life, he only did so because his father was involved in that situation. But work called. There was a ceiling collapse at a wedding reception. Eve’s new friend Aydan had catered the event and she was still there when the ceiling collapsed. Ayden was one of the few people gay people in the small town.

Eve and her even had chemistry. But Eve could never work up the courage to ask Ayden out. Then the ceiling collapsed. Eve was one of the firefighters that responded to the scene and she tried to look for Ayden. She called her cell phone hoping to get her in spite of the rubble.

Eve eventually followed the sound of Ayden’s phone to the phone itself. She just didn’t find Ayden. She and Jake were searching the building with Vince’s help for any survivors when more of the ceiling came down. The new rubble trapped Vince. Bode was told about what happened. He wanted to go rescue his father. It was Manny who told him how. Manny needed help to fix a forklift to help remove some of the rubble. They needed to create a path inside. Bode knows a little thing about engines and so he was able to help Manny to get the machine back up and running. They moved it towards the building.

They were doing their best to remove rubble while some other firefighters were set on freeing Vince. Jake and Eve were still free to use their hands and so they did best with what they could to save Vince. Vince didn’t care how long it took. He was optimistic the whole way. He even had to warn Jake not to tell him goodbye. The forklift arriving also stopped Vince from worrying. Vince was saved from the rubble. The other wedding guests were found. Eve even found Aydan. Aydan was a little banged up, but she’ll make it. Aydan also experienced a life changing moment. She later asked Eve to ask her out again.

Also, Bode saving his father’s life again helped their relationship. Vince finally stopped being angry at Bode and he came to see his potential. Vince put money into Bode’s account. He also told his wife that he would listen more and talk less next time he saw Bode. Bode meanwhile didn’t just stop with his father. He also helped his buddy, Freddy. Freddy admitted he was serving time for a crime he didn’t commit. Freddy was only guilty of being black and in the neighborhood. His public defender told him to take a deal or spend nine years behind bars and so Freddy took the easy option. But Freddie was innocent.

Bode talked to a lawyer about helping Freddie. He wanted Freddie to have the best representation to get out of prison and, when Bode wasn’t speaking to lawyers, he was having meaningful conversations with Gabriella. Gabriella’s father asked Sharon to haze her with the hope of Gabriella quitting the Fire Department. And Gabriella was refusing to do so.

THE END!
