General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Tuesday, August, 9, reveals that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) stopped Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) fierce attack while Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) called off the divorce to save herself.

At the Metro Court pool, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) met Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) and was instantly charmed by him. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) privately tried to warn about all Cody’s flaws, but Liesl argued that her daughter should have some fun.

Meanwhile, Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) quizzed Ava about the divorce, so Ava produced the papers and insisted it was happening – though the circumstances had changed.

However, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) refused to sign the papers and spoke to Ava privately about why they needed to stay married.

After Nikolas admitted Spencer Cassadine’s (Nicholas Chavez) scheme to help Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali), he pointed out people were looking for Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl). Nikolas was convinced Esme was dead, so he didn’t want questions about their divorce once her body surfaced.

Plus, Nikolas wouldn’t have to testify against Ava as her husband – that is if it came down to it. Ava finally agreed to stay married out of self-preservation, but she had no interest in returning to Wyndemere.

Back with Scott, he joined Liesl and met Cody, who claimed to recognize him from his lawyer ads and got confirmation when Scott offered his card. Cody said he’d been waiting to do this for a long time and punched Scott in the face, so Liesl and Britt were shocked.

At Charlie’s Pub, Sonny and Nina acknowledged that their relationship had changed since Nixon Falls, but Sonny felt they could build on what they had if she’d just take a chance.

At one point, Grant Smoltz (David Lautman) approached Nina and Sonny for a comment regarding Sasha Gilmore’s (Sofia Mattsson) latest scandal. Sonny nearly attacked Smoltz multiple times, so Nina had to hold him back.

Once Smoltz finally left, Nina thought that proved her point about not being able to escape the rest of the world. Sonny pointed out that they were still standing and acted like they could tackle anything together.

Nina finally admitted Sonny was worth it and vowed to be brave. If Sonny would still have her, Nina insisted she was his. Sonny smiled before pulling Nina into a passionate kiss.

At the Metro Court, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) talked to Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) about where they’d live if they moved in together. Dante admitted he was thinking his place, but Sam didn’t like that idea since it still felt like Lulu Spencer’s (Emme Rylan) house, too.

Although Dante missed Lulu, he assured Sam that whatever they had as a couple was over. Dante argued that Lulu had moved on and asked Sam not to let his ex come between them. That said, Dante was willing to be patient.

Nearby, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) met with Mia Lombardi (Vanessa Mathison) the executive coach before Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) had her own meeting. Carly hoped Mia would be a good fit before admitting she wanted to get back everything she lost and more.

Valentin had a run-in with Carly, Drew and Mia before he joined Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy), who was on the phone with the governor trying to buy Spencer’s way out of another prison sentence.

Victor then turned his attention to Valentin and reminded him of his Charlotte Cassadine (Amelia McLain) boarding school leverage. There was also talk about Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) since Victor struggled to believe Valentin had her under control.

In the yoga studio, Anna admitted her instincts were telling her not to trust Valentin’s story. Although Anna wasn’t looking for a reason to dump Valentin, she got Felicia Scorpio’s (Kristina Wagner) encouragement to go with those instincts and dig for the truth.

Back at the Metro Court on Tuesday’s GH episode, Sam gazed in Drew and Carly’s direction as they laughed loudly over drinks.

After deciding he was done playing nice, Drew cornered Valentin and insisted they needed to get a few things straight.

We’ll provide updates as other GH news comes in. General Hospital spoilers say Drew will have a proposition for Valentin to consider soon, so stay tuned. CDL will have all the fantastic General Hospital spoilers, news and updates you’re looking for, so check back often.
