In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy, Nick met the rest of Meredith’s family. He came to Seattle to deliver a transplanted organ. While he was there, he met Bailey. He wasn’t introduced to her in an official capacity as Meredith’s boyfriend. He was only introduced as a doctor and Bailey liked him. She thanked him for the organ. She was glad he was going to be there during a crucial surgery and she secretly hoped the surgery would put them back on top.

The hospital that it is. The hospital has come under scrutiny from the Medical Accreditation Council. The Council was even considering taking their accreditation away and without that, they would lose their residents. And once the resident was gone, the hospital would stop being able to function.

If one thing falls, so too everything else. The hospital, therefore, had to put on a good face when the Council came by and he did so with an innovative surgery. The transplant wasn’t a simple transplant. The doctors were going to be taking a kidney from a pig and putting it in a brain-dead man. The man was an organ donor. His organs were rejected for donation because of his history of cancer and so his body has been donated to science. The man’s name is Mason Taylor. His surgery could change organ donation forever if it works out and is proven a cross-species donation is possible.

The residents were super excited about the surgery. They were seen being happy by members of the Council as they toured the hospital and that wasn’t the only thing the Council saw. The Council also spoke to the doctors. They couldn’t speak with Richard because he was being assessed that day. He brought in Hamilton and Hamilton brought in Kai. Together, they ran Richard through several tests. Richard proved ultimately to be fit. It just didn’t happen before he figured out that Hamilton was trying to poach Meredith. Richard freaked out. He lost his cool as he was still performing tests and he was about to stomp off when he got a call from Schmitt.

Schmitt recently found out his mother has been badmouthing the hospital. She was probably the one who alerted the Council to begin with what with all the tweets about GSM being a terrible hospital that kills people. Schmitt found out when Helm told him the hospital was in danger. She wanted him to come down to the hospital to be there for when the Council came and he was going to ignore when he saw the tweets and put two and two together. He realized it was his mom. He confronted her. She said he would still be a doctor if the residency program didn’t push him into taking risks he was unprepared for.

Schmitt’s mother was so angry that she tripped on the steps leaving the basement. She fell down them and she seriously injured herself. Schmitt did his best to treat her. He called 911. It was taking them forever to arrive. They were wasting time that his mom didn’t have and so Schmitt called his mentor. He called Richard. Richard talked him through performing a procedure on his mom. It was the first procedure that Schmitt had performed since his patient had died on his table. But he did it because he loves his mom. He wanted to keep her alive. Schmitt stayed with his mom as she was rushed to Grey Sloane.

Richard had just hung up with him as he passed Bailey. He told Bailey what happened. Baily figured out he was holding something back and so Richard came clean with her. He told her that Meredith received a job offer in Minnesota. Bailey flipped out. She went running to Meredith and she said some horrible things to her. Like throwing the fact that Derek was married when they met in her face. Bailey was even snapping at Nick when she seemed to suffer a cardiac event. Everyone thought it was a heart attack and so that suspended their fight. Bailey was handed over to Maggie who later declared it wasn’t a heart attack.

It was simply an event. Possibly a panic attack. It also confirmed to Meredith why she should leave. If she stays, she will always be seen as the resident that Richard and Bailey raised. She wouldn’t be seen as her own person. She thought she could start over in Minnesota. She hadn’t told Maggie about it and so Maggie found out when Bailey revealed the information. Maggie hadn’t wanted to lose Meredith or her kids. Maggie hadn’t taken the news well. But this was happening as Richard was comforting Schmitt. He and his mother arrived to the hospital. Richard was there for Schmitt and so Schmitt returned the favor.

Schmitt told Hamilton about why Richard had to leave his assessment. Richard used that opportunity to talk to the Council and the Council did see that the residency program was one of the best. However, there were a few problematic things that needed to change. The hospital was going to be put on probation and they had a few more weeks to change things until a final decision is made on whether they can stay a training hospital.

Richard passed his assessment.

And Meredith chose to take that offer in Minnesota.

THE END!
