The latest episode of “MasterChef” picked up right at auditions. There were only twenty aprons this year. The contestants were made to compete for those aprons and they also had to show one other component. They had to show they’ve improved since they last saw the judges. It’s been years since some of them have seen Chef Ramsay, Chef Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich. Some may even remember different judges. But the judges were all the same in one sense. They were all looking for great food. The taste, the presentation, and the elevated factor of being made by a returning contestant meant that there was no room for disappointment. The contestants all had to be at their best.

The first batch up was a group consisting of people who were all the seventh to be eliminated. There was Willie who was a music teacher back then and he’s now a chef. In fact, they were all now chefs. Derrick was a chef at a popular New York restaurant. Tommy even served as a brand ambassador to the Netherlands. Also, let’s not forget Micah who was able to start his own business thanks to having been on MasterChef. The show each gave them a platform and they now all get to do what they love the most. They get to cook. The first contestant to bring forward was his dish, Willie. He made halibut.

The dish looked beautiful. It tasted great. The judges only had good things to say. The only criticism they had was that it needed some more acidity to it. Next up was Derrick. He made a shrimp dish and it tasted great. The judges actually felt it tasted better than they thought. Which was basically damming with faint praise. They also complained that something in the sauce was cooked out entirely and so there’s no telling where they’re going to go with that one. Then there was Tommy. Tommy’s dish was perhaps the prettiest dish they had and it tasted amazing. His quail was cooked to perfection. The only downside was that they didn’t enjoy his sides as much as his main dish.

Last up was Micah. Micah chose to take the unusual step of baking his dish. The only problem with it is that it tasted less fluffy and more spongy. Which wasn’t what he was going for. It, therefore, was no surprise that Micah didn’t get his apron. Willie got an apron. Ramsay then asked the next person to be confident enough to come and get his apron and Tommy did just that. Tommy didn’t need anyone to announce him. He just marched up and he collected his apron. Thereby cementing his place in the new Top 20! But then there was the second batch of contestants. They all became chefs. Some even left their steady jobs to pursue their dream and so they were back for another chance at the title.

Michael was one contestant in the second batch. He actually wrote some cookbooks that went on to become quite popular. He was back now to show how much he’s improved and he wasn’t the only one. There was Cate, Danny, and Sarah. Sarah actually came in second in the tenth season. She was all set to win when Dorian beat her by a few points. Only the person who stood out while the contestants were making their dishes was Cate. Cate had run out of time without smoking her venison. She forgot to do it. It then became an issue as she tried to do it with seconds left on the clock and so naturally she ran out of time.

Cate’s dish still looked great. It tasted good, but everyone was now left wondering how well it would have tasted if it had actually been smoked like planned. Next up were the other three. They all ultimately cooked their protein perfectly and Michael was also told that his dish deserved to be in a Michelin-starred restaurant. It was no surprise at all that he got one of the aprons in his group. He managed to beat out the runner-up in his original group. So, he was quite proud to get his apron. The next batch on the other hand zoomed right by to the dishes and the contestants that got aprons were Stephen and Bowen.

The batch of contestants however were all members of the MasterChef Junior who were back as adults. There was Tae-Ho, Dara, and Shayne. They were now doing their best to make it as professional chefs only some still had a way to go. Shayne and Dara got their aprons. It was only Tae-Ho, from that batch, who has to come back another year for a chance at the title.
