In tonight’s NCIS Hawai’i episode, Lucy’s landlord was selling her place. She couldn’t afford to buy it. She quickly started to look for a new place and she never told her girlfriend about it. The first Whistler heard she was moving was when she saw the lease to the new apartment. She asked about it and it led to an uncomfortable moment in which it looked like Whistler wanted to ask Lucy to move in with her but chickened out before she could. Lucy didn’t even notice. She went to work and she quickly got on the murder case like the rest of Tennant’s team. They were investigating the death of Petty Officer Ben Ioane. Ben was visiting the island to watch his brother play in a high football game. He was thrown off the balcony up high. And died instantly.

But there was a problem with investigating this crime. Ben’s family didn’t want to talk to cops. Ben’s brother Titus was willing to open up and they learned that he had invited his brother to the game, but these young men’s father refused to see or talk to Ben. Ben enlisted without telling his parents. He sorta took the first opportunity he could to run away from home as far as he could. Ben’s time in the navy did that. He was an exemplary sailor. Tennant has read only good things about him. She wanted to find out who killed him. It was his just family that didn’t seem to care he was dead. Ben’s father said that he hadn’t seen Ben since he ran away to join the navy. Which was a lie.

Ben visited his father’s worksite at least three times since he came back to the island. His father works in construction and he works for some scary people. He works for the Koa brothers. The brothers have been accused of various crimes over the years. Nothing was ever proven. But they had no problem with threatening federal agents. Kai and Lucy went to the worksite to talk to Mr. Ioane. The men at the site were all hostile towards them. They even threatened them. If it hadn’t been for an old acquaintance of Kai being there, they might have had to draw their weapon. And so Kai and Lucy quickly fled from the scene.

They tracked down Ben’s father. They questioned him about his son. He basically said his son has been dead to him since he enlisted and that was all the information he was willing to give. The most they got out of it was that Ben liked to stick his nose in where it didn’t belong. The team looked into it. They realized that Ben has been visiting the construction site because he was trying to get information on the Koa brothers. He wasn’t trying to reconnect with his father. Something the father confirmed. Ben was also talking to old football foes from back when he was in high school. He ran into guy at his brother’s football match.

The team brought that guy in. He claimed that Ben ruined his future by busting up his knee and that he killed Ben. Something that the team didn’t believe. They thought it a little too convenient that Ben began looking into the Koa brothers and that’s when out of nowhere an old rival chooses to kill him. The man confessing also explicitly stated that he wasn’t hired to kill Ben. He supposedly killed him all on his own. But no one believed him. Tennant used her ex-husband to get Ben’s brother alone. Titus was willing to talk. It seems he’s a very gifted football player. The Koa brothers noticed it. They offered his father work, they made sure he had the best material, and all they wanted was cut from once he makes it big.

The Koa brothers considered it an investment. But they were demanding more and more as time went by. Titus was so concerned that he called his brother. He asked for help. Ben showed up back on the island and he tried to make things right. The Koa brothers didn’t like that. They had Ben killed and they were using fear tactics to keep Mr. Ioane’s mouth shut. NCIS were later able to connect the Koa brothers to Ben’s murder. They went to the construction site to make arrests when they found Mr. Ioane.

The Koa brothers were going to kill him in retaliation for his son talking to the feds. But Kai knew who told them. He and the others took down the brothers. They rescued Ben’s father. They sent the brothers to prison and Kai also learned that not only did his friend rat him out to the brothers, but he also was the one running their operation. Ernie found all the money being funneled back to a man named AJ. AJ and Kai knew each other from high school. They haven’t talked for years before this case and yet now they were constantly seeing each other. First at the worksite. Later, when AJ invited Kai to a thing with his family.

But Kai knew the truth. He knew AJ was guilty of criminal conspiracy and he wasn’t shocked when the Koa brothers later died in prison.

THE END!
