Katya was a great supervillain. She came up with great deepfakes of everyone. She even tried to use them to force Callen’s hand in the matter and the plan failed because the team came up with secret codes for whenever they talk on the phone. When Callen didn’t hear the clue word from the fake Sam, he realized it was fake. He called the real Sam on a burner phone. They figured out that Katya has been spying on them so well that she even knew about their cases. The two men agreed to meet somewhere off the books and Sam later showed. Callen never did. Callen disappeared. The team looked into it and they found footage of Sam going into a different building.

The team mobilized. Save for Deeks who was doing some paperwork for their adoption, the rest of them found no trace of Callen and so they went inside. They found the building empty. Fatima was only able to access their cameras after the rest of the team turned back on the power and by then she found out that Katya has Callen. Katya was working with her own team. They grabbed Callen. They beat him up. They also took him to a different location. It turns out Katya wanted revenge for Callen taking the only person she’s ever loved and so Callen was busy explaining to her how she wasn’t a creature built for love. She was built for revenge.

Revenge was something he could help her with. Callen told her that he knew where Howard Pembrooke is. Pembrooke was a man who tortured them both as kids as part of a special program in creating the perfect soldier. Pembrooke ran this type of program both in Russia and the U.S. He was a horrible man. He truly did torture the children in his care and so Callen wanted to take him down. Katya on the other hand wasn’t convinced. She thought Callen would never let her get away after killing Pembrooke. Callen had to tell her that not only would he help her in killing Pembrooke, but he would even facilitate her escape. He wanted Pembrooke dead that bad.

Only Katya still wouldn’t trust him. She also realized that Pembrooke had to be in the city if Callen found him and so she wanted to find him on her own. Katya doesn’t look like her old self. She’s had plastic surgery. She has a team that kept their identities as well as their location secret. The team tried to find them and they went down a rabbit hole they couldn’t dig themselves out of. They kept finding fakes. They kept getting led to the wrong locations. It was impossible to track them and so Callen had all the time in the world to make his case. He proved to Katya that he knew Pembrooke so well that he recognized his cologne as the one that Katya now uses.

Katya started wearing it as a means for her to finally stop remembering the smell. There was also another way that Callen was able to prove his claims. He used a saying that Pembrooke used on them. He said it to Katya and that convinced her he was telling the truth. It just didn’t manipulate her into freeing him. Katya was still angry about the whole taking Ana away from her. Katya kidnapped Ana. She showed Callen footage of her being tied to a chair and in that footage, Katya shot and killed her because Ana refused to tell the crazy woman that she loves her. Ana tried to do that when she saw that Katya had kidnapped Callen as well. And by that point, Katya no longer believed her.

Callen was shown footage of this. He came to believe Ana was dead. Ana wasn’t dead. Ana later joined up with the team and they did their best to try and track down Callen. Each time they got close, they found another deep fake. They had to watch Callen die several times. It got to Ana. Sam had to tell her over and over again that Callen was still out there. Which he was. Callen watched as his team kept finding deep fakes of him dying. He watched as this tortured his loved ones. Callen never had a family. The team was his family. Ana was his family. And so watching them in pain was the worse torture he could ever experience.

Katya knew that the container where she was holding Callen will eventually be found. Hence she rigged it with explosives. She also left an outside camera on so that Callen could watch as his family reaches him and possibly watch as they all die. But Sam was smart. He realized the container could be rigged and so he stopped it from going off. Sam diffused the bomb. This allowed them to get inside and they rescued Callen. Callen and Ana were reunited. And Katya didn’t get away.

Katya was found shot down in an area nearby. Callen had no idea who was behind. It could have been Pembrooke. It could have even been Joelle because she was in town. And so there’s no telling who killed Katya Miranova.
