In tonight’s Sister Wives episode, Christine discussed the divorce on the final episode of the three part one on ones. She said that giving up on the marriage had felt freeing and that she doesn’t regret it. She truly doesn’t. The others were a mixed bag of emotions on the topic. Take Robyn for example. Robyn thought it was a waste. She said they were two functioning people and they could have made it work if they tried.

But then there’s Janelle who understood the divorce. Janelle said that Christine and Kody had tried everything to make it work and nothing they did could fix the divide. Christine and Kody’s marriage failed. There was no getting it back and they even disagreed on how it came to be. Kody thought the great gamble of polygamy wasn’t paying off.

Kody said as much in one of his confessionals. He said that if it wasn’t for him that his wives wouldn’t even be friends and so he went full off on the idea of polygamy. He said it ultimately doesn’t pay off. Maybe that’s why he’s basically living as a monogamist with Robyn nowadays. He probably finds it easier than adjusting to one wife than working on what he has with four wives and he’s already one wife down what with Christine walking away. Christine no longer believes in polygamy for herself. She would never do it again. She barely wanted to do it while she was married to Kody.

Christine often told the public that she didn’t just want a man. She wanted sister wives. But then she would tell Kody that she struggles and he admits now that he didn’t take it well. Kody said he reacted in anger when what he should have done was sympathize with her. He realizes that now looking back and that wasn’t the only thing he mishandled. There was also the issue of moving back to Utah. Christine said that was a huge factor in her wanting a divorce because she felt Utah was home and she wanted to know why they couldn’t go back there. It was the others that turned the idea.

Kody especially had said it wasn’t possible. He said that Arizona is their home now and that he thought their adult children could return there to settle. Many didn’t know that the Utah move was Christine’s final straw. Christine saw the marriage that Kody and Meri had and she refuses to have anything similar. She chose divorce. She chose it the moment she found out that there was no chance they were ever going to move back to Utah and so the others did talk about that moment as well. They were shocked to later learn that was her breaking point. They didn’t see the need and once again it was Robyn who reiterated that Kody and Christine could have worked through their issues.

Christine meanwhile said the marriage worked best when she put herself last. When she was putting everyone else first, she and Kody didn’t have problems. They weren’t fighting. He wasn’t asking her to change or prioritize the family. It was when Christine was sick of being the basement wife that the marriage started to break down. She only started speaking up for herself after her father reminded her that she matters too and he could see how unhappy she was. Not that anyone else really saw it. Christine speaking up for herself had shifted the balance in the relationship. It helped her get on with Janelle but not much with anyone else.

Christine packed up Kody’s things once she was told they were never going to be intimate again. or that’s what she claims. Kody claims differently. Kody said he didn’t want to be intimate at the moment because he was hearing from the kids that she wanted to leave him and he was feeling betrayed. He said he never ruled out all possibility of it happening in the future. Maybe he’s right. Maybe she’s right. It could be a little of both. Their martial history on the other hand more or less indicate the problem lies with him. Kody did after all admit to his wife that he wasn’t attracted to her when they first got married.

At the time, he told her that he was attracted to her then. But that’s something he should have taken to the grave and so Christine had a right to be angry with him. She did try to save their marriage. She put him first for years. She put everyone else first and nothing she did or say could save the marriage in the end. Christine was better off now that she’s dating herself. Kody meanwhile was happy with Robyn if no one else.

THE END!
