In tonight’s Sister Wives episode the pandemic has made Kody aware of those who are loyal to him as well as those who are not. Kody is the head of his family or at least was before the pandemic hit. Things changed when they went into lockdown and the dynamic shifted. Kody no longer feels like the head of the family. Kody stop feeling like that when he couldn’t control his wives or children anymore and so he doesn’t really coming around. He doesn’t see his kids much.

He invited Gabe and Garrison to help him move some lumber on the property. He needed the help and he wanted to spend time with him, but his kids began asking about Christmas and that’s when Kody went into whole spiel about quarantining. And he even tried to make them feel bad.

Kody said he should be the only one moving from house to house. He knows that their household and Christine’s household didn’t follow these rules and that’s why he hasn’t been coming around. Before Kody began explaining his side, his sons thought it was Robyn that was the problem. They now know its Kody and that the goal posts will always be moving with him.

Kody said if they followed his quarantine rules that they could celebrate Christmas together. He doesn’t believe the families are following the rules and that’s why he doesn’t include them. Meri does follow the rules and usually he still finds a way to exclude her. And so the boys were realizing now that Kody’s quarantine rules were about control.

Kody discussed Thanksgiving. He said that Christine and Janelle were visiting each other and Gabe went yeah because they were struggling. Janelle worked a lot when the kids were younger. It was Christine who raised Janelle’s kids. They all love her like a second mom. They know how hard the pandemic has been for Christine and they were glad to be there to support her.

Gabe even said it wasn’t a diss on the other moms. It was Christine who raised him and he wants to keep seeing her. He was also going to defend her. Gabe defended both his mother’s and Christine’s actions during the pandemic. Gabe said they were willing to risk covid so that the whole family would be together. And Kody wasn’t doing that.

Kody was checking out long before the pandemic hit. He doesn’t remember that and the others do. They all know that he has favorites. Kody even acknowledge that he has different relationship with Robyn’s kids because Robyn set down ground rules for her family when she joined the much larger family. She told them that they would respect the rules, each other, and Kody as their father.

Kody said the other wives have never done that before. He therefore appreciates Robyn more for setting those rules. He also dismisses the other wives for not setting those rules. At one point, Gabe broke down in tears telling his dad that he misses him and all Kody could do was blame Janelle for the breakdown in their relationship.

Gabe was being vulnerable. He was being honest. Kody was ignoring him and still shifting blame rather than apologizing for hurting his son. That’s the part that flew right over his head. He doesn’t realizes that he hurts Gabe by staying away for months on end. Kody also asked who would help Janelle if she gets sick and her sons immediately said them. Kody tried to tell them they have school. Gabe mentioned they stopped in-person classes. He’s learning from home. Garrison said he would quit his job to take care of mom and so Kody thinking he’d be the one to take care of Janelle was wrong. Everyone knows he’s not the person to call. He used to show up and not interact with anyone or only pay attention to his phone. And so Kody’s been checked out.

It’s been grating on his family. They especially hate to watch him pick favorites. Kody claims he doesn’t have favorites but he does and everyone can see its Robyn and her kids and that wasn’t fair to the other wives. Christine and Kody’s relationship has been struggling for years. Meri and Kody’s relationship is nonexistent. Janelle has been the one being loyal to him and he doesn’t treat her right. Later, Janelle’s mother passed away. She and her family went to go bury her mom. Christine also went with her kids. Kody asked Robyn and Meri to stay home. He said he didn’t want them getting the virus. And so they had to wait until the family came back from the funeral to express their remorse in person.

The cast also learned that rapid tests are a thing now and so the family was able to get a quick test after they returned from the funeral. Once that was done, it was onto Christmas. Everyone followed Kody’s rules and Kody allowed them to come over to celebrate Christmas together. And it was good because the kids love being around each other.

THE END!
