Tonight’s Sister Wives episode begins with revealing this has been perhaps the most difficult season the show as well as the family has ever faced. Filming it had put untold strain on everyone and it revealed fractures within the family. There was marital strife. There was also covid. There was even an utter breakdown among the sister wives. Their relationship was usually what held everything together and there wasn’t any of that this season. But the problems didn’t start with them. It started with Kody. Kody was the guy who was supposed to lead through the good times and the bad and he failed to do that with his family. He let them down. He them all down. He started with Meri and it quickly spread to the others. And that’s why he’s now divorced.

Christine divorced him. Christine was the first to mention her dissatisfaction among the group. The first episode of this past season had her come to dinner and tell everyone she feels resented if not outright hated. The others had all been shocked by that response. Especially Janelle. Janelle and Christine are very close. She was shocked as well by Christine’s statements. Christine said she was that blunt because she felt Janelle had done something nice by putting them all in a room together and she wanted to repay that by being honest. Christine felt that way within the larger family gathering because by then her marriage had utterly broken down.

Again, this was on Kody. Kody has four marriages with four different women and he wasn’t putting in the work to sustain all of them. He seemed to be solely focused on Robyn. Robyn was the only one to follow his strict covid rules and have her children follow them. The others did not. Meri did, but Kody had already given up on their marriage and told her that they were just friends. Janelle tried to stick to the rules. Her children did not. Christine outright chose not to follow the rules and Kody used that as an excuse to further punish her. He used that as a reasoning for not really coming around distancing himself from the kids.

Not that it was much different than when he used to come around. Kody likes to pretend he’s a good dad except he doesn’t treat all of his children the same way and he used to visit Christine’s house to play with Truely but that’s about it. He mostly stayed glued to his phone. He only seemed to visit at night. He didn’t really partake in the family atmosphere. He even missed out his daughter’s spinal surgery and that was dangerous as hell. Kody was also a poor excuse of a father to Janelle’s children. He had a son tell him how much he misses him on this current season and he couldn’t bring himself to hold his son or even comfort him. He was too busy blaming their separation on Janelle and Christine.

It wasn’t surprising when Christine packed all of his stuff because she didn’t want him around getting items. By then, she was so over it. Over him that it made perfect sense and he has no one to blame for it but himself. It’s the same with the catfish thing. Kody stopped being intimate with Meri a good few years before the catfish thing happened and so he uses intimacy as a means of telling a wife he wasn’t happy with them and then acts shocked when they in turn say they aren’t happy with him either. The state of his “marriage” to Meri was so sad. He doesn’t even mention her when he’s discussing his relationships with his wives because he no longer considers her a wife.

The catfish thing revealed the cracks in their marriage. It didn’t cause the cracks. Kody has left the marriage entirely by the point and the reason he no longer tries with her because he feels that she was going to leave him for another man. He failed to realize that she was going to leave him just because it was him. She was also depressed by her life with him. She wasn’t leaving him to be with someone else. They’ve talked about it. She thought it got through to him and he still doesn’t see that way. He thinks she only stayed because her life with this other guy didn’t work out. And that the family protected her following the catfish thing.

Meri doesn’t want to leave the marriage because she still loves him. She prayed about it. She was told to stay in her marriage and so she holds out for hope. But Kody had shown and said several times now that he is never going to go there again. He said he doesn’t feel safe around Meri. He was at least honest to say that he felt that before the catfish took place. He felt that way for years before then and that’s why he stopped being intimate.

THE END!
