In tonight’s Station 19 episode, Andy was facing manslaughter charges. The justice system was literally going to put her on trial for fighting back against a man who tried to sexually assault her and so Andy tried to adjust. She pleaded not guilty. She got a lawyer. She was doing her best to fight the charges and unfortunately, her morale has taken a nosedive because she started reading online comments.

She was reading people who believed she brought this on herself. They called her dramatic. They claimed they were worried about men if men can no longer ask women out and that’s not what happened. What happened was a man tried to rape her. He wanted sex and she said “no” and he didn’t want to leave it there.

Jeremy Benanti just kept coming until Andy fought him off. She fought him. She inadvertently killed him and now she was facing a long stint in prison for murder when it should have been noted as self-defense. Andy also couldn’t turn to work to forget. Her station got shut down. She awaiting reassignment and hers was taking longer than Theo’s. Theo got reassigned to Station 19. He was happy being with friends and his girlfriend. But Andy’s position was still in limbo. She moved into a new place and she was sharing space with Vic. Vic was keeping her company when she didn’t have work. And Vic kept everyone else up to date on Andy.

Only, no one knew that Andy’s mother would make her return. Elena showed up at the station asking for Andy one day. They had to tell her that she was waiting on reassignment and that they didn’t know where she’ll be placed. They had thought she was a journalist. She told them that “no, she’s Andy’s mom”. It shocked Sullivan. Sullivan had never met his mother-in-law. Not when he first married her daughter and not when the two started divorce proceedings. Sullivan was upfront with Elena. He told her that he was still technically married to her daughter. He also told her that he wasn’t sure her presence was something Andy needs right now.

Sullivan would have said more, but he got called out on a job with the ambulance truck and so that’s where he left things with Elena. Sullivan responded to a fire at a secret sweatshop. The owner of this place had tried to claim the building was emptied. It was only when they spoke to the security guard away from the other that the other man admitted that people were inside and that they were inside a secret room no less on the second floor. Everyone got called to this fire to assist with the rescue. The only ones who weren’t there were Maya and Jack. Those two were back at her apartment getting rid to inseminate Carina.

Or at least that’s what they planned to do before they got the news. Not the news about the fire. The news about Jack’s brother. Jack did some genetic testing to see if he could become Maya and her wife Carina’s sperm donor. Only he found out that he has a brother. Not a half-brother. A full brother as in the same set of parents and so Jack went down a spiral of whether or not he should contact this guy. He has this man’s email. He knows that his brother is a dad because his email is Dadjokes2013. Jack was wanting to know if he should reach out to his brother when Carina had a freak out.

Carina was on a lot of hormones. She just needed to relax and eventually Maya talked her down. They carried out with their original plans while across town Andy and the new Fire Chief attended the fire. Andy wasn’t there to work. She was just talking to Ross when Ross got called to that sweat shop fire like everyone else. She took Andy with her and she basically told Andy in the car that she was suspended until the result of the trial. She tried to coach it like she was on Andy’s side and was doing her favor. Which Andy called BS on. Andy was tired of the system that protected white men and left women vulnerable.

Montgomery felt the same. He found out that the sweat shop was being run by a friend of Dixon’s and that Dixon was doing his best to help him cover up what happened, but confronting Dixon didn’t help and Ross told him that if he didn’t like how things were that he should be the one to change them. He could complain all he liked. Or he could do something about Dixon running for mayor. Theo told him about a fable that said the same thing. Montgomery thought of running against Dixon and he was still considering it while Andy ran into her mom. Elena found her address and she just showed up and apparently that’s what Andy needed.

Andy needed to hug her mom. Her mom had her own story of when she was sexually assaulted and that’s why she made sure Andy knew how to protect herself. Elena was glad Andy fought back. She was even glad she killed her assaulter. Elena knew just what to say and just what to do to make Andy finally forget her troubles. And so Elena made the right choice contacting her daughter.

Sullivan had been wrong and this wasn’t the first time he tried to make a decision for Andy that wasn’t his to make. And he was even starting to do that to Ross, so she told him to cut it out.

THE END!
