In tonight’s The Family Chantel episode, Pedro and Chantel aren’t in a good place. There’s been tension for months. They also haven’t slept together in months and that could be why they can’t get over this latest bump in the road. But things were so bad that they were seen as well as overheard arguing at their own housewarming party. The family was now concerned about their marriage. Chantel didn’t talk to them about how bad things are and so the biggest clue was that party. The family would normally have asked only they were going through some things too. They had Winter to worry about. She had her surgery and her dating life. And the last part has never gone well for her.
Winter recently ended her relationship with Masoma after he asked her for financial help. He was just one of many losers she briefly dated and it never goes well for Winter. She gets invested. She used her time and her money on a guy whose usually never worth it. So, no one wanted that for Winter again. They warned her off of Masoma. She was now talking to another guy. She asked her sister for advice. Chantel told her to only commit herself once the guy proves marriage material. According to Chantel, the guy needed some type of uniform to prove he has a job. Winter also shouldn’t leave everything to looks.
It was one thing to be attracted to a guy. It was another to only invest in the handsomest face because often those guys aren’t good at the follow through and so Winter was given helpful advice about men. What she didn’t ask for was advice about food. Winter and Chantel met up at the supermarket and Winter wanted to pick out her healthy snacks. Chantel on other hand wanted her to stick to broths and protein shakes. Chantel is a nurse. She said that what Winter needs right now, post-surgery, was something that would give her nutrients. Chantel only wanted to help and so Winter picked up the broth even though she was sick of it by then.
While Chantel was with her sister, Pedro was at work. Pedro works in real estate. He spends a lot of time on the phone looking for new clients and putting in advertisements and being in the office so much meant he got to know the people he works with really well. One of those people is an attractive young woman. Pedro has grown especially close to her. He counts her as a friend. He just hasn’t told Chantel about it because he didn’t want to upset his wife. But it would only upset his wife if Pedro does find this woman attractive. He wouldn’t be keeping this friend a secret if he didn’t find her attractive. And so keeping that from his wife was probably for the best.
There were also things stirring in the Dominican Republic. Pedro’s sister Nicole lost her bid to become a pageant queen on a bigger stage and so she was already feeling the hurt when guess who surprises her for a visit? Alejandro! Alejandro wants Nicole back. He surprised her at work and she kicked him out. She also told him he was smelling all the place with his cologne. Nicole basically told Alejandro to drop dead and he could have gotten offended. Hopped on a flight back to New York at the earliest convenience. He instead sought out her friend Coriama. He wanted the friend’s help in winning Nicole back. And the friend offered to do just that.
Back in Atlanta, Pedro came home late at night only to get upset at his wife. He said the house wasn’t clean. He said there was no dinner. He failed to realize that Chantel stopped doing those things because of their issues. She was doing them all the time and Pedro was still treating her like crap. So, why should cater to him now that he continues to treat her like crap? Pedro has been coming home later and later. He had another woman’s names written on his house keys. He came home without his car one time. The car was returned the next morning and Chantel didn’t know who by or who gave Pedro a lift home that night.
Pedro has taken to calling Chantel lazy if the house isn’t in perfect condition. He never cleans himself. He just expects her to do it everyday with no recognition or kindness from him and so Chantel had enough. She accused him of being just like his father. His father was known for disrespecting his wife. He treated both his wife and his mistress poorly. Chantel was beginning to see the resemblance and she said as much to Pedro. Chantel hasn’t gotten “I love you” for him in months. She doesn’t think he likes her anymore. She asked him what did he really feel about her and he wouldn’t say. All he could say that she knows how he feels about her.
Also, the lazy thing. Chantel works three days in a row at a hospital where she has twelve hour shifts each day. She rests on the fourth day. Pedro comes home and see her sleeping and he calls her “lazy”. He said the Chantel he married would never have done that. Back when they were first married, Chantel had a sign up on the wall saying how much money they needed each month to survive. She was working as well as going to school. She’s out of school now. She’s a full-time nurse and she has a lot more free time. Free time she would have used trying to be the perfect wife if Pedro hadn’t stopped being nice to her.
And so Chantel stormed out of the house. She drove aimlessly for a while until she decided to go to her brother’s place and she stayed the night there. River did ask why she fought with Pedro. Chantel was only willing to tell him that Pedro told her to clean the house and she left. She didn’t go into any other details about the fight. She simply slept at her brother’s place. She left the next morning and she thought that was that. She didn’t know that River would spill to their mother, Karen. River went to their parents’ house and he found Karen working out in some mixed martial arts thing. She even was wearing a kimono.
Karen was really serious about becoming a sensei in this field. She was already talking about opening her own gym if she sticks it out for ten years and so mom was dressed to kill when River sought her advice about Chantel. River thought his sister had looked defeated. He wanted to know how he could help. Karen however was ready to beat up Pedro and so both she and her son sought out Pedro. And that’s where the episode ended.
