The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) and Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) may separate to avoid Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) sole custody push. Will this bio dad tear Abby, Chance and Dominic Newman-Abbott-Winters-Chancellor’s (Rainn and River Ware) family apart?
Chance and Abby have been more than generous when it comes to this shared custody arrangement.
Devon was originally just supposed to be the sperm donor and fulfill an uncle type of role, so the fact that he gets overnight visits and can call himself “Daddy” is amazing.
Although Devon really needs to sit back and be grateful for what he’s got, he doesn’t seem happy with the agreement.
Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) pointed that out recently and questioned whether Devon wanted more of a say in Dominic’s life.
Amanda also asked if Devon wanted sole custody, which he denied.
However, Y&R fans will recall that Devon also denied wanting shared custody early on. This is just Devon and Amanda’s typical pattern.
Amanda always senses that Devon isn’t content, so she plants an idea in his head – and then baby-obsessed Devon can’t let it go.
Now that Amanda has mentioned this sole custody suggestion, Devon is probably going to run with it.
That’s especially true since Devon is worried about all the negativity at the Chancellor mansion.
Chance is doing exactly what Devon pressured him to do, which is attend therapy sessions and get the help he needs.
Unfortunately, Devon is also holding it against Chance since that process takes an emotional toll.
That doesn’t seem fair considering there are plenty of people who attend therapy and are perfectly good parents to their children.
Nevertheless, Chance himself has been concerned about the possibility of Dominic picking up his nervous vibes.
Chance also turned down an opportunity to hold Dom after his latest therapy session since he didn’t want to add to the baby’s stress.
It’s easy to see the pieces coming together for more trouble here.
Devon may ultimately suggest that he should get full custody due to the negative environment Dom’s currently in and leave Abby flipping out.
Chance shares Devon’s concerns, but there’s surely no way he’d ask Abby to give up full custody of Dominic because of him.
The easiest solution is for Chance to move out – leaving Abby in peace with Dom at the mansion.
Devon couldn’t use the negativity as an excuse anymore in that case.
The truth is Devon seems greedy about the amount of time he spends with the child he was never supposed to raise, so he may not be satisfied regardless.
Still, Chance doesn’t think he deserves his life with Abby and Dominic, so this will give him an easy out.
It seems likely Chance will insist on a separation – a temporary one that could become permanent if he can’t move past all his issues.
